Host has a Different version

So playing with some of my buddies I've played with for a while. But I'm playing on a new PC. And when I tried to join it said "host has a different version" I tried disabling all my mods, removing all my mods, verifying install, and I even reinstalled. Nothing is working. Would love some help getting this worked out.

mods are usually the biggest issue for that, but it occurs on both ends,make sure your friends arent running any mods. Double check dlc as it may be a part of it, though paradox unlike other games of the genre is usually good with letting you play with people that have different DLC. Finally register your account and check the bug or multiplayer subsection of the forum they may have better info for you

Yeah no mods were on for anyone. And more than one person was able to join(I was the only one that couldn't)

Run the game up with NO mods enabled. You should see version 2.0.2 5e2f in the launcher, the main game screen, and in the MP screens. If you see anything else in any one of those places you have a bad installation:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.


If the version is the same in all three places unmodded, but not when mods are loaded, you have different mods or different mod versions than the other players.

It says that version in all places on my screen. However when my friends tried to join, it said it was a version that didn't exist.(2.0.2 6b64 or something like)

If he has the wrong version then he needs to do the reinstall, not you.

Does this issue occur if one of you has some DLC the others are missing? Like, for example, if he doesn't have Apocalypse installed, and you do, or vice versa?

No. DLCs have nothing to do with checksums. In MP play only the host's DLCs matter anyway.

Not sure if it's been fixed or not, but there have been reports about Apocalypse not always behaving properly, in that, if the host has it active, all the other players need it active as well.
