I've read a gazillion pages on the wiki and on this forum, but it doesn't make any sense to me. Can someone please explain to me what the +25% production bonus from docks means in actual real game terms.

Here's my example: I have a province with a trade value of 20.86.
I have a production efficiency of 31.2%.
I have a dock, for +25% to something.

I get 6.52 production at the end of the day.

Now 20.86 x 0.312 is 6.50832. So how does +25% to something (what?) equate to a 0.01 gain? And why would I ever build docks if the effect is practically zero - aside from the fact that I repair ships faster?

I know this has been asked before, but I haven't understood any of the replies :)

Except that the total is 6.52, not 8.14, as I wrote above.

I may however have figured this out myself. If my default production efficiency is 25%, then an extra quarter thereof would be +6.25; 25 + 6.25 =31.25, or the 31.2%.

Is that it? i.e. the +25% is an additional quarter of your production efficiency?

i.e. 20.86*.25 = 5.215; that's the income without the docks at 25% production efficiency.

5.215 * 1.25 = 6.51875, or 6.52; that's the income with the docks factored in. The dock thus accounts for an additional 1.3 income.

In other words, the 25% isn't in the 20.86, and it isn't applied to the 6.5 as posted above. It is indeed an extra 25% income above the base level that you would receive without the docks. What's confusing is that it's already applied to the production efficiency in the breakdown (31.2% in my case), which isn't immediately apparent unless you happen to know offhand what your production efficiency is. It wasn't until I checked out other provinces without docks that I realised that 25% is the base figure.

In DW, (sorry I cannot look at EU3 complete to compare) the dock production bonus is already computed into the production efficiency that is shown in the province information. So if Complete works the same way, then the production efficiency of a neighboring province with no dock would be about 25% - since 125% of 25% is 31.25%

Again, this is for DW, but I don't think that the production mechanics changed much.

Complete doesn't give you 25% production bonus for building docks. Docks just shortens the time it takes to build ships.
Docks did not exist prior to Divine Wind. You're thinking of shipyard that had the shipbuilding speed bonus.
