So I have started almost a dozen different games and this has not triggered for me yet, what is the trigger to activate that storyline?
You have to enter a black hole system with a science ship, the best way to do that is find a place with two near black holes so you send the ship in both until you get the event. So I have started almost a dozen different games and this has not triggered for me yet, what is the trigger to activate that storyline?
Whenever a science ship with a scientist in it enters a blackhole system there is a 0.5% of it starting, you can order up your scientist to enter a black hole system(s) a hundred times or so until it fires.
everytime you enter a system with a black hole you have a 1 in 200 (i think) chance of triggering the event
fastest way to get it looking around and try finding 2 black holes in jump distance from each other and jump with 1 ship between them

Yup, 0.5% whenever you enter any blackhole system. I've gotten it to launch two times by cycling science ship(s) through multiple black hole system, frankly it's kind of amazing that you got it without intentional tactics.Really?? I only got the event once and assumed that the 0.5% figure meant that it had to be a new black hole each time. Got to try this out on my next playthrough!
This is really my only complaint about it as a DLC- its almost impossible to trigger it in a way that doesn't break immersion.Yup, 0.5% whenever you enter any blackhole system. Yeah, I remember hearing somewhere that in 1.5 Paradox will make it easier to fire. I can't find a source so take that with a fairly large grain of salt. This is really my only complaint about it as a DLC- its almost impossible to trigger it in a way that doesn't break immersion.

IMO the Horizon Signal DLC is infinitely more rewarding early-game.Eugh, I just read that. That's very disappointing implementation of the trigger. It should be something that starts maybe mid-way through a game, roughly a third of all games maybe to mix it up, not something that will always happen if a player knows the meta of how to trigger and forces it, and practically never happens otherwise.

I hope easier but without the ability to force it by the player
be careful with which system you build that structure in, it can turn out either really good, really bad, or just "meh" depending on which one you do... I did it in my home system because "Why Not?"...I didn't count the attempts, but yea, I finally got it to trigger. I don't know how far I am into it, but I have two buildings researched and I am researching a pyramid type building. I suspect the story is on hold until after that building is researched and built, I haven't had anything happen in a while. It's a pretty cool story.

the results where:
my home world and every other non-gas planet and moon in the system was turned into Tombworlds(luckily 3 of them are over 20 in size, and there's like six 5-7 sized tomb-moons around all the gas giants), it's inhabited mutated to adapt to the new environment and gaining "Repugnant" trait, and the sun is now a black hole.
fortunately this was early enough that I only have 5 colonies of "normal" POPs, so my new "mutated" form will quickly out populate them from the new worlds in my home system alone.
oh, I saw it pop up in the build menu when I was looking at my colonies, but didn't try to do it sense I was there to queue up the fist few building on a new colony... which is why I figured it was grayed out(so many building require at least one upgrade to the planet's capital after all)...It can only be built on your homeworld, actually.
