Hi all, first post on these forums though I've been lurking for a while now. Anyway I've purchased Rome and VV and I've been unable to get VV working. I am able to play Rome, but as soon as VV gets installed it no longer works. I have not tried installing 2.1 yet. I'm hoping someone here knows what I need to do to make this work, and can explain to me what to do. I am an idiot with computers so if anyone knows what I need to do, please keep that in mind and feel free to talk to me like I am a five year old. Thanks for helping! Oh I use Vista (reluctantly) if that makes any difference.

When I try to play the game it does not start and I see this message:

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.

Clicking details shows the text below:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

You need to register your game, to gain access to the Technical support forum, where this question belongs

Well I am having trouble doing just that too. I have registered both but I can't access the tech support forum. When I try to use the link in the Rome start up screen I get a message telling me that I don't have permission to access the page.

You haven't registered your games (only registering Rome is enough, for gaining access to all the forums) under MyGames/Registrations. If you would, then you would have a little icon under your username

Look here

I have tried to do that several times now. Each time I get told that the key has already been registered. I think the problem is that I initially tried to register the game on my old desktop that was so out of date it wasn't able to handle Rome. Now I'm trying to get it going on the laptop I just got. I did just register Deus Vult though, maybe that will let me find the technical forum.

Thanks for the continued help though. I do appreciate it

Yeah I eventually realized that and did end up clicking the correct link. I'm in the process of redownloading to reinstall Rome right now. Will the download from the link take care of this on its own or will I need to do something to make it all work. Like I said, idiot when it comes to computers.

The package in that thread is known to solve this problem. Without any more detail I'm not sure what else we can do for them.

yeah...
the info he gave are quite the same than what i read in first message (in french instead of english)
I asked if he rebooted after installing the package and said yes. He also uninstalled the game, reinstalled and put the package.

edit : the guy bought a new game at GG and now it's correct. Probably a problem with the software from the french seller.
