I'm probably one of the few that didn't preorder, yet bought the game before its finished state. I don't get the freebie DLCs, but I do get in slightly early, and may have some minor say in the direction of the game from here on. Still waiting on the download to complete, so I can't comment on the game as is, but I'm a Paradox veteran, so the unfinished state doesn't bother me so much, assuming Kerberos sticks to it and finishes the game and then perfects it, as I'm used to with Paradox titles.

I'm not a Kerberos or SotS I veteran, so there are misgivings there, but I've heard good things, and the recent bad publicity since release SHOULD embolden the developers to prove the critics wrong. I hope my contribution helps in that regard, but if it doesn't, I take full responsibility for my decision.

Good luck, and Godspeed, Kerberos!
I hope you make us proud!

I think u did a good purchase.
Most of us bought or prebought and got stuck with bugs and crashes but the last 2 patches while still leaving several bugs and crashes present made the game enjoyable so I'd say you kicked in at the best time.

I dunno if its the best time. It may get discounted during the Winter Steam sale. And its about 3 more weeks of patches at the rate they have been going from being really good IMO. I'm just waiting for when they pass over the tech tree to fix the broken one's. But yeah I wouldn't worry about them fixing the game up. They already sunk like two months worth of serious effort into fixing it I doubt they would stop with the finish line in sight.

I agree with whats been said. Overall most of the basic features are now in, though some tweaking will continue. At least thats what I see from my experience. (150 hrs of play according to steam)

For me - its enjoyable. If like me, you like to play long slow games and build up vast empires. So far turn 130 in my current game. Mostly play predominantly as Humans. On the large size 8 maps. Combat still needs work and some of the techs need to be fully implemented. Diplomacy looks like it needs the most work through. Still get CTDs on some of the features and not sure if most are implemented. Though theres an immense tech tree to learn.

However, as a veteran of over 300+ hours on SotS1 and approaching 150+ on SotS2, its beginning to feel like SotS1 in terms of strategic gameplay. That 'Ill just play one more turn' to see how my empire will progress - feeling is starting to take-over. However, the combat isn't complete and I really cant comment on MP as Ive not tried.

So while there has been a lot of progress, Im hoping for alot more in the weeks to come.

If past experience is to go by, there will be alot of content expansions like SotS1 which will really flush out the games potential. But once the basic game is underlined. We can but hope!
