I liked the stream and I like the direction the game is headed in. However I found it rather immersion breaking that our character, the King of Leon, was "out there to save Rodrigo's life in a county in France" while he was "on a pilgrimage to Santiago".

I have high hopes that such stuff will be fixed in future updates, but just wanted to point it out for the record.

I believe it is meant to be, that a bunch of guards "Save" Rodrigo's life, not actually the King of Leon.

But then what are the guards of the King of Leon doing in France?^^

Pretty sure the event was worded to imply that the character himself was there.

I am 99% certain that Rodrigo was not actually in the court of the french king at the time of the plot.

He is listed as the "Chancellor of Count Raoul", so I'm thinking he was in the french court on an "improve relations" mission and has since been recalled to somewhere a lot closer to Leon. Or he might have "wandered" to a county in Leon to work as a councilor for Count Raoul.

This is the kind of thing that happened ALL THE TIME in CK2 (anyone remember tactical sperm cuz you've been crusading in the holy land for three years and your wife in Iceland gets pregnant and no it isn't a bastard?) and to me doesn't matter. The level of granularity needed to constantly check precisely where the relevant characters are and either needing to postpone the outcome of events, pick from a curtailed list of relevant events or write specific events for every permutation of character location does not seem worth the investment to me at all.

Agree it would be way to much work, for so little gain.

There is a middle ground. Get rid of the most immersion breaking stuff which strongly hampers roleplaying (like the event under discussion) and keep some stuff in so as to keep the game fun. The event under discussion is extremely jarring because at one moment I am imagining myself walking to Santiago on a pilgrimage and suddenly I am in France to fabricate a hook and suddenly I am resuming the pilgrimage afterward.

What I am saying is that there is some sort of compromise which can be designed to reduce jarring while keeping the game fun to play and immersive.

It think it should be easy enough for them to fix.

They already have a tag for characters not being available to avoid firing events that make no sense while the character is "away". My guess is that fabricating hooks is not affected because most of the fabrication is done by your spymaster and does not require your character to be involved. They would just need to stop this specific variant of the fabrication events form firing when other events would be stopped due to the "away" tag.

This. Or maybe rewrite the event, so it does not imply that the character itself os the one doing the action on France. The problem is they would have to double check a lot of events

What I am saying is that there is some sort of compromise which can be designed to reduce jarring while keeping the game fun to play and immersive.

It gets more complicated, because if he was a noble in England or Germany, then the event to "save" Rod in France firing while he was on his way to Santiago would actually make more sense than it would if fired while the noble is at home (though at home would still work).

Plus you could still run the risk of two event firing while you are at home that involve you going to 2 different, and opposite direction, places.

So this is probably one where sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and it not worth the effort to fix all the edge cases.
