How do I honor an alliance without going through 'declare war' on the diplomacy menu? The manual says it can be done but it doesn't say how to do it!

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
When an ally of yours declares war or is declared upon, they usually send you a message asking for assistance. There should be a small shield with your allies flag and a lightning bolt in the top left hand corner of the screen. Click on it and you should get a message box saying, for instance "France asks us to honor our military alliance and declare war on Spain." Hit accept and you will have entered the war.
