So holy orders like the knights of St. John stay with Catholics even if you end the schism between the east and west and most nations are orthodox. Not that I'm complaining, but wouldn't it make sense for them to go orthodox or split so some go each way? I noticed Spanish kingdoms got killed off by muslims because they went orthodox and couldn't recruit a holy order anymore.

I know the Orthodox churches disdained militant holy orders, but it would so cool to be able to bring them under the fold. As it is, no amount of maneuvering has gotten the Knights Templar or Hospitaller to convert to Monophysitism. I mean, is it so unlikely that the headmaster might profess a different faith if duly converted? I think there should be a little bit more flexibility on that.

One would think that if the grand master converted to a heresy (in the eyes of his men), he would not remain the grand master for terribly long, realistically. Converting the common people or opportunistic nobility is one thing, mass-converting disciplined men fighting for zealotry is something entirely different.

Yes, but I think the fundamental difference is that they are fighting in the name of God/Christ not the name of the Pope, if the Pope basically joins the pentarchy then I don't think much would change for them its likely some at least would convert. I don't think most of those zealots could even tell you the difference between orthodoxy and catholocism in 1066 except maybe pentarchs vs popes and different titles for the priests. Really there wasn't much both would still be fighting in the name of Christ/God.

I didn't know about Orthodox churches disdain for militant holy orders that could cause a problem. I would say however that if the holy order exists and converts its not like that's going to cause them to disband unless no one will pay them.

I am quite happy that holy orders behave this way , and will be even more happy when I am allowed to PLAY with such a Holy Order .

It's really heroic . If only there was an option not only to play with them , but to DISSOLVE the Pentarchy and recreate the Schism !

I mean , the lonely Catholic ( heretic ) Templars in my current ( formerly Eastern ) Roman Empire game are just begging to be played .

I can let them suffer no more .

PARADOX , BELOVED PARADOX , MAKE IT HAPPEN !

( and Pagans )

( and Republics )

( AND BARONS GODDAMIT ! :p )

( just kidding about the baron bit there )

P.S. : Seriously now , I love the "alternative history" options , I just want to see MORE of them !
P.P.S. : When you decide to show the pagans some love , please include some alternative history scenarios too .

It's fine if we don't get to see Lindisfarne in the game , but give us SOMETHING !

But Lindisfarne would be nice .

By nature of not knowing the key differences and similarities between the two in the schism, one would think that they would in fact reject it simply due to it being called something different and reporting to a differently named church authority. It happens all the time in the modern world; people don't know about Islam, so they think the deity worshiped by it is a different deity than Christianity -- and we're living in a time when information on that sort of thing is readily available with ease to anyone who cares to learn it. The Crusaders of the fourth crusade certainly saw no particular love or brotherhood for Orthodox powers when their demands were refused.

I did cheat to see what will happen.
So after making Roman Empire and melting schism i was thinking to do something about catholic's Pope. I couldn't usurp his title (game end), so i just went to save game file, changed holder of Papacy and defined his liege.
So after that bishop of Rome beacame a Pope. But since he is not catholic anymore
1. I saw no crusades
2. Holy orders still were aout of my hands

It's kinda being munchkin from my side. Always want to get hands on enything that possible to get. Not like i needed Holy Orders, just wanted to make em my vassals.
