I've seen mostly germanic reformations happen by chance a couple decades after the 867 game start (haven't played 769 much but I'm guessing it depends a lot on charlie's succes then), and tengri reformations late game, when temujin unites the steppes. Once saw Suomunesko and once romuva, never slavic or west african.

But hey, with the african holy sites relocated, maybe we'll actually see that one from time to time!
That, and it depends on if he conquers saxony.

I will be reforming Zunism

Unyielding nature for home defense,
Dawnbreaker and Stability for incredible vassal opinions, Divine Marriage gives a huge bonus to vassal opinion, and with polygamy you can avoid inbreeding. Stability gives the Jain bonuses for vassal opinion. Add theology focus to that and you get a + 20
temple vassal opinion on top of that.
I will use Hierocratic leadership, because I really enjoy the idea of a pagan "pope".

I'm kinda sad that I can't also pick Animism, because I feel like pagan religions in general (except for suomenusko) lack fluff, and that inititation ritual really seems like a nice piece of fluff I would love to have :/
Female leadership simply wouldn't work for this realm though. As a woman, you can't control avoiding inbreeding as well as a man can. As a woman, you are fertile from 16 to 40, and your relative-husband can impregnate you anytime, almost regardless of age. Maybe you can pick a homosexual relative-husband and have non-relative husbands on the side?

My religion will help me have big, stable realms that are easy to defend, and easily secured succession via numerous offspring. I also love that I will have the Festival of Sun events, and if I recall correctly, I still get to have Sky burial as a Zunist, right? Or was that never a thing?

I can’t wait to create a poly-pagan empire where I’ve reformed several faiths with wildly different doctrines, where pagan elders choose the next emperor, or all the brothers fight for the throne in a duel.

Still should be - old individual events/decisions shouldn't be eliminated in new mechanism.

Some events probably should get eliminated with some reformation choices. The Norse's random Holmgang events don't really fit if you've picked Peaceful, for example.

Meritocracy would be best if you want a truly stabe realm. Or you could pick animism like a real man. Or just pick enatic clans for hard mode. I will point out, though, that women are fertile until about 55ish in my experience, but the game assumes they're infertile at 45, which means matrillineal marriage is hard if your husband dies on you part way through your reign, with that massive "too old" malus.

That is a really annoying mechanic about female rulers. It's a huge unneeded penalty, since it outright blocks the AI from accepting any marriage proposals if the woman is over 40 years old. It doesn't matter if the man isn't a councillor/commander and lowborn or completely unrelated to the ruler. It also doesn't matter if the player is the one asking to marry the older woman, it's just blocked. In the later case, I can understand why, so that you can't pre-marry people before landing them to prevent them from having any kids. However, there should at least be some work around for female rulers over 40 so that you can marry someone other than your courtiers in order to get the spouse bonuses to diplomacy, martial, stewardship, and intrigue (realm learning doesn't do anything, so I didn't include it).

I find bribery to get high skill suitors in my court then forcing them to marry me works best. Still a bit of a hassle to go through.

for my zunism, I'm between Animism, Enatic Clans, and Meritocracy, and for leadership I'm tied between Sun Caliphate and Sun Papacy. Both are fun ideas, but I wonder if excommunication will be a thing if we take heirocratic, or if it's a doctrine or nature we haven't seen. Other than that, I'm leaning cosmopolitan for my nature.

I wonder if Animistic would be a good idea (power wise, when it come to RP its purely personal) since at the start of the game in a normal 769 start date only 3 province in the whole world are zunist, and even by the time you reform the faith you'll probably have barely 1 or 2 more converted province if you're lucky, so you won't get much help from the Moral Boost, i think Animistc is a more viable choice where the religion is naturaly wide spread by the time you reform, like Slavic, Germanic, African, or Even Tengri if you're nomadic.
Unrelenting would probably be a better Pick for Improved Army in my opinion.

Currently I'm eyeballing

Cosmopolitan, still possibly peaceful but losing the ability to expand with holy wars seems painful. Also since I'm gonna play in Africa syncretism makes sense.

Astrology, the Hermetics are my favorite society and I simply cannot pass on them.
And then either enatic clans or animism. Animism just feels right for pagans and I like the coming of age ritual idea but otoh a matriarchy would be a unique twist. Expanding all the way to Socotra and establishing an enatic merchant republic there would be a fun goal.

Hierarchical, cuz I too like the idea of a pagan pope.

A fair assessment, but there are two things that I could could argue for animistic. One, we don't yet know what a rite of passage will do for characters. It give them buffs, or it may just give an opinion bonus. The point being it could be amazing, or mediocre. The second point is, couldn't he take Proselytizing? I know it might now give a bonus to conversion, but it will help to spread the religion outside of your borders, hopefully gaining allies. The other part is reformation gets rid of the malice to county conversion, and he should be able to convert much faster at that point.

I only ever had a 40+ female character give birth only once, so I think you can fairly reliably expect females not to give birth above 40.
I want to pick animism, and I possibly will for my tengri game.
Not a fan of heir designation. I kind alike to "fix up" the random heirs that I get over the course of their rule. Easier to do with monastic societies, but maybe the warrior lodges will offer something similar?

Gotta say though, the tengri special doctrine seems weird. What is the point of polygamy if you can't get a significant bonus from it, like Zunists can?
What you get is basically a lot of heirs, who will split your kingdom upon succession, and you don't even get increased vassal opinions for it. Or do you?

Tengri rulers are often kagans, so this isn't problem. After feudalization as reformed pagans can change laws into prigomenitura or other.

Definitely excited to try out Enatic Clans. I did think at first that it wouldn't make much RP sense, as all tribal pagans are locked into agnatic succession, but then I thought about it. Tribal societies are basically run by whatever clan has the most military strength, so naturally men would hold political power in those societies, but as temple holdings can be held by both men and women, we know that in the game at least, women potentially have a great deal of cultural/religious authority in said societies. It's not that hard to envision a religious reformation that restructures society in such a way that emphasises women's pre-existing areas of authority over those of men, in much the same way that Catholicism emphasised the societal relevance of male authority over women in the real world.

EDIT: Presumably, Enatic clans still allows men to serve as commanders. As such, we see that the men still have military power, but that no longer translates to political control.

Many alliances.

Tengri rulers are often kagans, so this isn't problem. After feudalization as reformed pagans can change laws into prigomenitura or other.

Yeah, nomadic succession benefits quite strongly from having many heirs that can all individually be sent off as mercenaries to gain wealth and glory to bring back home. Especially since no clans are ever fractured unless done intentionally by targeted decision, there's no real downside to having too many heirs.

I think about Dogmatic, Astrology, Divine Marriage, Autocephalous Slavic faith for the first run.
For Slavic first we must know what is "Children of Perun" ;)

As creator of "Better Slavic Pagan Mod" - I'm very interested of this doctrine and the vision of Slavicness in Paradoxian minds.
