Reminds me of the series of Downfall videos someone was making for the making of HOI3 (or one of the expansions). Should bring those back for HOI4 lol :)
I really want to make a Hitler rage video about HOI4.

General: "the enemy is approaching Berlin" [points on map]
Hitler, making weird hand gesture: "Steiner's attack will bring it under control"
General: "Mein Führer... Steiner..."
General 2: "Steiner isn't in this game."
Hitler: "...everyone who are fine with division commanders being removed, GFO".

(...)

General: "but there's an option for NATO counters!"
Hitler: "who the @#*§ is Nato?! We are the Wehrmacht!"

Only reason I haven't made a "Funny HOI4 pictures/video thread" is I'm afraid it'll be flooded by angry pictures about counters :p .

Another issue with the Downfall videos is that problems of Nazi iconography and some other issues. They can be funny, but there are rules issues with them.

Yeah there's one banned symbol on the arm of goebbels (?) but other than that you mostly see iron crosses in this scene. It would be quite easy to edit out with some pixelated censorship, but you wouldn't be able to use the various Hitler video maker available online where you can just fill out the subtitle fields :p

I'm not sure - as you say, we'll have to see - but I get the impression that HoI4 'states' are roughly as big as HoI2 'provinces', in which case I think it would work well. It would be a little like playing a hybrid of HoI2 and HoI3, with added advances in game systems; I think this could be a good thing!

The "states are the unit that has improvements" really kills the idea of realistic infrastructure. Furthermore, it seems to kill the idea of being able to mod it in later.

Those were epic, I can't believe I've never seen the HOI3 ones before, might have to open up my video editor as we get closer to launch in case some things don't make it in :wub:

I'd just like to say that this new gradient border mapmode is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Can we get this in a DLC/patch for EU4 and CK2? Pretty please? :D
The city lights seem to be a little low res though on the pic. It looks like Egypt has a rash. You should make higher res texture for the city lights or some kickass shader effects.

yeah its a bit WIP right now. It loosk really good at certain distances but not fully close up yet

I'm still unconvinced about the combined map mode, particularly about the weather, day/night and FOW* overlays - they obscure far too much. Also I thought (at least on my screen here) that the small counters were too small to easily see, though I'll take another look later at home when I replay the video.

*Yes, I know it's meant to obscure, but any half-competent staff would know what the terrain at least was, even if they didn't know if forces were there.

I still want a button to turn on/off the Day/Night cycle from the screen. I watched the video and think it is well done. I just don't want to watch it for 1,000s of hours! It would be nice to be able to turn it back on when I think it is important.

But that will not work in ironman (or something similar. I assume the game will have a mode like that since both CKII and EUIV has it), will it?

Yes, if it is just me and a few other people want to turn it off I can live with the console command. So long as the day/night effects are still in game and just not displayed, I was unsure about this. I know adding more buttons can clutter up the screen.
