Hi guys, I have questions concerning the hoi4 techs. As of now the small arms techs for example for basic infantry is devided into 3 parts weapons 1, weapons 2 and 3. And according to my knowledge these are simply improvments upon the former. Do these infantry small arms need to be distributed, just like how tank models need to be distributed to tank division.
In hearts of iron 3 you could improve different aspects of your infantry weapons such as their hard attack and soft attack through many levels, giving you alot of choice. In hoi4 how does it work there?

Tank models for the major nations look different but are their stats any different, you cannot improve infividual things anymore so if I want a tank division with tanks armed with machineguns (meaning that I haven't invested into hard attack) cant I do that anymore?

How does tank techs look for minor powers, are they only replaced with generic tank model 1,2,3 etc?

1. The weapons are separate equipment. So if you researched weapons 2 you would have to slowly phase out your old weapons. As can be seen here, you can give your infantry better hard attack, recon, and I think soft attack through those machine gun icons.

2. All tank models for each nation start out as the same. However you can make variants of these and customize them with experience you gain from using them in battle. Each major has unique tank names and the minors just have generic names like "medium tank 1" but stat wise they are all the same until you make a new variant of them.
