It is possible to run EU4 on a tablet, albeit the time ticks quite slow.
The interface, however is hugely unsuited.

Considering that HOI4, unlike EU4, doesn`t have you sit through years while your AE cools down, I would assume HOI4 would be great game for tablet with both new tablet models coming out with better CPUs, and HOI4s overall slower game pace.

So, I have to ask the obvious question, does HOI4 development team has supporting UI that is friendly for touch-screen and 10inch FHD screens somewhere on priority list?

It would be possible, but unsuited. the dev team have said nothing about 10" touchscreen support and its such a niche market (realistically, how many HOI4 buyers will be playing on such a device?) that i can't see them spending development time and money on support for it. To change the entire interface into a streamlined touch screen style interface would be a lot of work for a very small amount of people

Paradox already said that they are looking into making mobile versions of games like europa universalis and hearts of iron. You cant expect them to optimize something for tablets that is an desktop application, to be honest. I like the idea of mobile versions, as long as it doesnt conflict with the development of the full desktop version. I'd like to bring my EU IV or HoI IV with me when i am out doing stuff.

I hope not.
I hate touchscreen controls with passion.
Nobody is going to force you to use it, with a gun near your head. :p

You vastly overestimate the amount of changes needed, probably, because you didn`t try playing EU4 on the tablet.

I can expect them to do precisely that, because some tablets are actual x86 PCs running desktop version of Windows.

They need to work on their support of different resolutions and screen sizes anyway, as the new displays have vastly varying ppi(pixel per inch), it is a consistent problem of their games for the past 4 years at least. :D

If anything, they need to migrate from resolution being deciding factor, as 15inch screen can have anything from 1366x800 to 4k, while still being 15inch, and fronts and UI elements shouldn`t be ludicrously large, nor unreadably small.

Except implementing touchscreen support for the UI would ruin it for the mouse/keyboard users.

This so much this. ouch screen controls should be banished! They're just annoyingly hell to use...

I've just build an application for one of our customers, using a 24 inch touch screen monitor/system (industrial pc + application).

You won't believe the number of constraints you suddenly bump into, and this is on a regular Windows 7 standard GUI desktop.

Buttons need to be made oversized. Everything needs to be accessible using a single click. No differentiation between a left, right or middle mouse button. No ability to use shift, ctrl or alt as a modifier key in conjunction with a "mouse" click. And the list doesn't stop there.

On said 24 inch screen (full HD resolution), each button we placed is roughly 100 by 40 pixels in size. And that is barely enough room (in square inches) to provide a clear surface area where a grownup with not-so-tiny fingers can click on without accidentally clicking on neighbouring buttons too. If you reduce the screen size to 15 inch or even smaller (tablet ballpark) , while retaining the resolution, you need to increase the button surface area to 160 x 64 to get that same surface area again.

Now open your paradox game of choice (EU4 for example), examine it's user interface, and image what would happen if you throw out differentiation between mouse buttons, remove shift, ctrl or alt modifiers to mouse clicks, and increase the hot spots you click on (buttons or otherwise) to sizes in the ballpark of 160 x 64.

It would become unplayable, at least in the way you're used to playing them ;)

But hey, you could make colored bubbles appear randomly to increase your income and combat rolls on touch. Wouldn't that be a nice addition to game mechanics?
