Just tried sunflower, Battleplans are as dumb and unintuitive as ever. Tell me why the frontline has to extend all the time. It is ridiculous. Give us an option to turn off the damn Battleplan AI. 9/10 cases all I want it to do is walk my units straight to the target line. No support attack, redeploying and what else requiered. Just stay at the damn position i give you and walk. Nope, cant be done it seems.

That is called micro-management, you just don't use the Grand Battle Plan doctrine line and manually control units. Be prepared to burn out your space bar pausing.

Whilst I agree with you at no point did the devs say they were doing anything about battle plans.

Anyway I'd personally be happy if i could just tell a front line to stay at x provinces long.

Agreed, nothing more frustrating than giving an armored corps a 2 province front only to have the AI extend it across 8 provinces because it knows better. You could also add in the issue about not being able to extend fronts along multiple national borders, a real pain in western Europe.

My favorite new feature is the "resync" feature... MP Games are much more fun right now as there's no need to rehost anymore!
Thanks for that.

Fighting in Spanish civil war against an AI became a little more challenging, which is an indication that the AI is getting better. It tends to do encirclements more often as well.

But the german AI still uses variants in a bad way. If you could maybe disable variants for AI and let them focus on medium tanks instead, that would be good!

Tweaked template progression script to make it better at moving to medium tanks.
So ok, not sure if this only refers to the switch the AI does from light to medium tank templates at some point. But in case it's supposed to be more generic "AI is now better at switching to medium tanks"... it seems the AI takes reeeeally long to put any medium tanks in its templates now.

In the current game i'm running Germany researched its first medium around March 1938. It had 45 xp points spare then. It is now over a year later, June 1939, and Germany has over 30 light tank divisions in the field (and training 20 more) but it still didn't even include a medium tank in its light tank template, the way it used to. It is sitting on 47 xp points now, doing nothing. That's a year wasted (and lot of resources went into making 9k of light tanks, when quite a few of these could be medium ones instead)

The other nations are only now getting their medium tanks research done so can't tell yet if they're equally bad at updating the template, but maybe it's worth looking into, idk.

I've ran 2 observer mode games and the allies/comintern dominate the Axis however do not ever attempt to invade the Japanese mainland.

Has this bug been fixed?

- Using "observer" mode from console in single player will break AI behavior. It should be fine for its intended purpose in multiplayer after having lost still as long as you observe players.

another bug perhaps
Shouldn't the small shield on the units also change to the anchor symbol?
Now the division counter keeps the the shield symbol... Dunno if its WAD or not.

If WAD, then I have been using a mod that also changed that symbol.
Add it please:)

Maybe instead of having to put the AI into contortions to get it to use medium tanks, we could just have two types of tank - light/medium and heavy, with medium tanks just being straight upgrades of light ones? Likewise motorised and mechanised, and jet planes that are straight upgrades of their non-jet versions.

Yeah, I've seen similar:

I noticed a problem with the Spanish civil war during one game where I played a passive UK. It was 1940 and the war was still raging, the republicans only held Barcelona and one province next to it and only had 8 troops. The nationalist had over 50 units but the war stalled for over a year.

I sent over a fleet to see why and I noticed that they kept just attacking Barcelona with a single Calvary unit against 8 troops for a year non stop.

I tagged over to them and saw they did indeed have 50 units but they were all spread out in garrison duty. I think the issue for that is the code that roughly says "when in a civil war garrison priority = 10000"

This is causing the AI to not actually win but instead waste all of it's troops guarding itself from... Something.

Same thing can happen to France if they choose to go to war with Germany over the Rhineland. This triggers a civil war which causes France to garrison and pull back all it's troops making it a stomp for Germany

Talking of lend lease can you enable us to see that on the diplomacy screen if some country lend lease to other? Just like we seeing volunteers and expeditionary forces.

Same for boosting ideology stuff or staging coup.. Thou I doubt if AI use them at all..

This isn't that new I recall this from before 1.2 though I've also seen it now. I started up a game as Portugal today and when the Japanese and Chinese were at war I had a look and despite China really needing units on the front (or to even just push the gaps in Japans line with its current units) it had loads garrisoned. On the coast fine, but in the mountains bordering Tibet etc?

Actually it has always been that shift click will add a unit that is not in the current selection or remove one that is. There is no change here. The lack of a colored highlight to the selected units makes it a bit confusing at times.

That is called micro-management, you just don't use the Grand Battle Plan doctrine line and manually control units. Be prepared to burn out your space bar pausing.

Agreed, nothing more frustrating than giving an armored corps a 2 province front only to have the AI extend it across 8 provinces because it knows better. You could also add in the issue about not being able to extend fronts along multiple national borders, a real pain in western Europe.
You cant pause every 2 hourse in multiplayer Mr. smartypants. You know whats even more fun? Have a a country surrounded by allied countries, make a frontline for your border, take ONE province, wooosh it extends to all around the country and your troops play ring around the rosie redeploying in a circle.

any of you guys having problems with re-enabling achievements? Ever since I installed sunflower (then removed it), I can't get achievements to work again. I checked the integrity of the cache and reinstalled the game, with no mod subscriptions. It still thinks I'm cheating.

They were primarily added by a modder. I fixed the severe issues with them, but adding random generated advisors and other things like that require more effort than I have time to spend at the moment.

Ah okay, thanks for the clarification. It's not really a big deal and I understand that there are more pressing issues right now. It would be nice however if we could see this being added in the future. :) Some other things I found out during my Israel campaign and subsequent PRC campaign:

- When Ukraine exists the USSR will still claim Bessarabia. This results in quite a bit of bordergore, because the USSR does not border Romania anymore. It would be better if this National Focus has a 'has a direct border with Bessarabia' check if that's possible.

- Whilst playing as the PRC my friend, who was playing as the USSR, wanted to get Trotsky in power. He did not do the purges and the civil war fired. Because of our war with Japan however, Russia got invited into the Axis. Now we have to kill the entire Axis before Trotsky can remove his 'Permanent Revolutionary' trait and become useful. The treshold for Russia joining a war should go up because this is an internal civil war. It has nothing to do with international factions and stuff like the 'Chinese Reclamation of Bejing' and should not be treated as such. Buffs for Trotsky will have a high chance to be useless otherwise, as long as the main prerequisite is that the USSR needs to be at peace in order for them to take effect. (I can understand that opinions about this differ, this is just how I feel about the subject.)

- When we declared the war on Japan they immediately joined the Axis. Germany and Italy then started to do tons of naval invasions near Vladivostok because they didn't have a real border with the USSR. (it was '38, Poland was still save and sound). The Germans in particular managed to lose 500k troops in a few months in hopeless pockets because of this. This is pure suicide, plain and simple, and should be avoided by the AI at all costs. The conflict between Japan and China should remain as seperate as possible from the conflicts between Germany/Italy and the rest of Europe. Now Germany has wasted a huge swath of its army, but it is still going to attack Poland, France and the USSR on the Western Border as soon as it connects. I am afraid that they never manage to deal with these losses in time and that this will be an easy victory for us/the allies.

- The same goes for the allies. In my Israel campaign the Allies managed to lose 2 million men total against 10k of mine, just by suiciding day in, day out, on the beaches of Alexandria/Tel Aviv. Invasions really need to be toned down. Not only am I not able to move a huge part of my army because they are quite literally stuck (thanks to day in, day out of 1 division landings), the allies are also losing huge amounts of equipment and manpower in these suicide runs effectively rendering them unable to do anything about Germany which is currently taking over the world. Either the AI should focus on 'big' invasions which fire at the same time, or they should just not do it as often as they do now. The invasion 'horn' is also starting to really annoy me now so that's also meh :p.

Hope this information helps.
