I'm really hoping to see at least an announcement in Q1 of this year. I understand that PDS want to get things right but it is getting a bit ridiculous. These days I'm way more tolerant of bugs and imbalances and unless they are utterly game breaking I'm happy to put up with a slightly imperfect game just to have something awesome and engaging to play. I can understand people who want a final release to genuinely be final and very polished but after waiting so long I'd rather just have something to get my teeth into. Maybe they want to try and re-write their reputation with regards to bugs in releases and that's why they are being so cautious but there's always going to be bugs to some degree and now it's a year after it's original release I'll take a few bugs just to have the game.

I am okay with waiting, and i am understand too that a game need more work or will be changed much somtimes.
The WWW and dev diarys are a good thing to held people "nearby" and "interested".
But not having an release date is really a problem for me. You always can write "can change because of development".
At least a "nearly that date" would be very nice. :(

We probably shouldn't judge performance by the way the game runs in the 1936 |1937 footage but rather performance in 1944 | 45 (which we haven't seen yet) because there's going to be a bunch more units and models on the map in 1944 | 1945, and consequently more calculations for AI, supply, etc. etc. So even though I have not seen the game perform poorly, it might be that the game has performance issues I haven't seen, and so I believe them if they say the beta build was not performing as well as they need it to.

And in terms of whether the game is officially in beta yet, just remember that during the same time period we're talking about paradox making these beta submissions (November & December 2015) they also moved offices, released a major DLC for EU4, and of course the holidays. Also there was apparently a round of illnesses in the office too, some people missed the developer multiplayer sessions due to illness.

Whatever the reasons might be, It doesn't really worry me that the game has not had a successful beta submission. why am I not worried? Because I really believe in the dev team. I have watched the interviews with them and seen the footage available, seen the dev diaries and searched and read the developers forums posts like a sneaky little troll and basically what I've found out is that these developers are

a) quite clever
b) big HOI fans
c) aware of and insightful about the problems in the previous games in the HOI series
d) not being forced through the development cycle to meet an arbitrary sales driven release date

All of the above make me feel pretty good about the game. Also, if you haven't searched the forum to read posts by the Devs, you really should. Some of those posts are fall down laughing funny.

Okay, so let's wait a few weeks and see the WWWs progress later into the timeframe. And if it's alright will come straight back to arguing.

Performance issues are more than just being able to play 1 game as a few nations without those nations being in trouble.
Some things that are pretty important:
AI, AI which doesn't send japanese divisions to the spanish civil war for example.
Balance, Every single type of unit has to be compared to every other type of unit + all their modifiers.
Not just UK and Germany has to function, but every single nation in the world has to be controlable and playable for the entire duration of the game without crashes, or desyncs preferably.

I mean it's a huge undertaking to fix all the variables in this game, and while certain aspects are looking great, obviously there is a lot to do still. I am sure the people who are making this game, are the ones who want it to be done the soonest, and not releasing a product early, just because you can and you know people will buy it takes a lot of self restraint, self restraint a lot of other companies could have used the past few years.
