Looks like the USA is still neglecting its carrier planes a bit. In my Japan game in the latest beta patch they had researched 1940s non-carrier fighters, but only had the basic "Fifi" carrier planes from 1922. They had 1936 torpedo bombers though.

I filed a bug report on this issue. Checked and couldn't find one through a search, although I know it has been discussed off and on for over a year.

Ran a new test game with the latest build (73d8 - nice changes!)

Still seeing these issues:
1) ai Italy is repeatedly Improving Relations with Bulgaria after it finishes the bulgaria_friend focus. This yo-yoing in and out of improving prevents Italy from having the PP to change conscription laws when needed or purchase new ministers.

2) ai Nat Spain joins Axis as soon as WT hits 100% with no German Spain focus choice and while still having the spirit Recovering from Civil War.

3) Independent Croatia forms as soon as Germany declares war on Yugoslavia, breaking German offensive orders and causing German to cease attacking Yugoslavia.

4) Portugal is changing to Limited Exports, hurting itself and removing almost 100 tungsten from the open market which screws the Axis, especially Germany.

5) ai Japan is not making Marine divisions at all despite being at war with Allies.

#1 is huge because Italy can't replace losses and can't build new divisions.
#2 usually means the Med becomes an Axis lake because the UK can't defend the Rock in 1940 without doing it's fortification focus.
#3 just screws up the Yugoslav war, how badly depends on whether the Allies support. in an MP game is suspect this issue could be badly abused.
#4 harms Germany because it relies on Portugese tungsten to build armor once it is at war with Russia.
#5 Japan would be much better off using Marines to invade with instead of basic Infantry, not to mention the benefits they provide fighting along the Chinese rivers.

Add this one to the list:

6) the ai is still struggling with resistance and is using a bad template to deal with it.

It is not just the USA, no nation will research CV fighters. This as been an issue forever, not just 1.4.

I've seen the AI have more modern AI fighters, but they seem to be well down the list, so they don't appear until well after their traditional dates. This was a 1.3.? game, but just mentioning it because you were saying forever :).

I'm fairly sure (as confident as my somewhat ropey memory allows) it was carrier fighters. I'll keep an eye out later on in this playthrough. It was very late in the piece, 1945 or later.

That might explain what I am seeing, although 1944-45 is far too late to begin researching new fighters to replace 1922 models. It may be a prioritization issue in that I have seen techs coded at a 0.5 ai_to_do. I did check however and a cursory glance showed CV_fighters at 1.0 ai_to_do, the US and JAP are actually set at a 2 priority for cv1, cv2, and cv3. So theoretically the ai should be researching these techs but it doesn't. I suspect this might be due to a code conflict somewhere in carrier builds that calls for ONLY early cv_fighters.

Along with all the other naval issues this issue makes it far too easy to curb stomp ai CV fleets and prevents ai carrier fleets from dealing with land based fighters on anywhere close to an equal basis.

There's the priorities through ai_focus as well. I can't remember the command off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure it's affected by the values in ai_focuses as well.

It looks pretty clear that cv_fighters aren't the only issue, just one of many. While the tech system 'does the job' at the moment, I personally think the current simple 'one rate of research' and 'small number of slots, and only stuff in a slot is researched' approach isn't the best one available, but that's because I'm a Rule the Waves fanboy ;).

Only if they are planning a 1.4.2 I would hope. I would be pleasantly surprised if they can address all of the bug reports still out there on 1.4 and 1.4.1 by this morning.

I have played two 1.4.1 games (but not with DLC) and in both games Japan is getting destroyed by China as early as 1940. Here is screenshot of latest game. Japan is already being swept off the continent. Somethings seems messed up with Japan.

Hey! What happened to the 4 Austrian Mountain divisions you used to get when you Anschlussed! They turned into Infantry. I can't find a patch note regarding this. Germany still gets the Austrian Alpenjager template but no yodeling mountaineers.

@podcat Are the new generic roles and templates causing the Austrian ai to convert them all to infantry now?

Random thought, if that is what is happening then the ai is converting ALL generic template coded minors from their starting templates to whatever the basic generic is.

Question for you, why doesn't Japan build any mountain units? Most of China are hills and mountains and mountain units can certainly be used later in SE Asia and the Burma/India theater.

May i ask will it go live today?
Only if they are planning a 1.4.2 I would hope. I would be pleasantly surprised if they can address all of the bug reports still out there on 1.4 and 1.4.1 by this morning.

Well the target is never to solve ALL the bugs because with a complex game like this you never run out and we'd never release the patch ever. Our objective for patches like this is to not leave anything worse at least, thats the hard restriction we put on ourselves. Its looking likely for a release tomorrow, we'll see. We are running out of time due to summer coming too.

It looks much better...it is instinctive but my first approach to an article is to sub-edit it before reading it. Pedantic, annoying, and makes most documents and letters from companies an agonising experience.

That last sentence is quite worrying. I do hope that we get a stable playable build, otherwise we are left without patches for the whole of July.
On the positive side this would mean more time to enjoy the European Summer!

Hello team !

I like what I see in the updated patchlog for 1.4.1 :)
I particularly love these :

- Encirclement loses now displays on combat log. Manpower lost in convoys (which is shot by navy forces) now displayed as "Losses to enemy navy" in combat log tooltip.
- Added overrun casualties to combat log.
- Units getting pushed back in naval invasions are now removed from the order so they won't automatically try it again
- Now you can mark all of the equipment as obsolete (even if base type) and equipment conversion is only done for obsolete equipment

Any chance to correct the wrong data shown in the naval combat summary (missing planes shot down during the battle, for example).
Thanks for your hard work, despite all the negativity around 1.4 (mine included ;) )
