I got a crash to desktop just after France joined the Allies. I was playing historical UK. I submitted a crash report. Reloading the game, it seems to not have recurred.

Does Republican Spain also get the national spirit that prevents it joining the war? They won in my game but I didn't see them get any national spirits at all.

I know. And as a new player to the game, seeing this immediately over and over and over again has me so frustrated. I’ve been waiting years to play this and finally thought it was time to dig in, that the game would be mature and balanced. Instead I’m just amazed at how messed up some of it is. AI is hard, but that’s why you have scripting to fix some general AI holes.

Equally crazy is setting up a frontlines then watching your defenders immediately lose all of their entrenchment by moving. For a new player you’re given these tools to manage your war, then they actively work against you? I only expected to find major problems once I’d played the game for months, not the first week. The game has been out for 3 years come June. I realize MtG is new and I have everything so I don’t know how things were pre-patch, but I get the impression a lot of these issues have been around a long time.

I wish the devs could somehow get the AI to consolidate its division, so it uses a smaller number of bigger, better divisions. This way we could get maybe ~250 or ~300 meaty divisions rather than ~900 brigades swarming the map. I don't know whether this is intended by design, or whether they simply can't get it right.

The other issue is the AI refusing to focus on newer ship designs, so you see them building tech 1 ships for most of the game.

If these two issues could be resolved then the game would be infinitely more fun to play.

I just launched the new game beta patch, however, the "reaffirm territorial claims" doesn't give Vojvodina or Carpathian Ruthenia Hungarian cores (nor does west banat). Only the "Demand the Vojvodina" gives core to Vojvodina correctly (but not for West Banat)
Also the overall population of Hungary sadly wasnt changed from the 8,69 (wrong) to the 9m(historically accurate) for the 1936 start.

Thanks for fixing the motorized icon for hungary.

These are two significant issues, for sure -- two among many, unfortunately.

The German are pouring troops down in Morocco and West Africa, the Italian have 22 divisions in Ethiopia and the British have abandonned El-Alamein to outnumber them down there. There are more Allies down in Congo.

Rep Spain - and them joining comintern is probably worse than Nat Spain joining Axis - now GER will crush them and get their land too. We'll see. Allies atleast are holding Africa and on their way towards kicking out GER/ITA, but without USA help, as this is just when USA gets DOWed (you remember what Roosevelt said, "June 27, 1941, a day that will live in infamy").

The China thing isn't fixed yet. They collapse still around 39, but the invasions not happening is a step in the right direction I guess. I dunno what's happening with China either.

A quick look over did show they were down on everything and lacked enough divisions to man the border so they just get overrun.

The battle planner is the worst thing about HOI4. Hundreds of hours of play doesn't put any shine on it.

I´d love an start option to totally remove that crap from the game, connected with switching doctrine effects. Because, for example great battleplan doctrine set as default on many nations gives pretty much nothing without planning bonuses... Usually, I just use console to switch doctrine at game start so I dont have to use battleplanner at all. Sure, it is kind of "mouse consumming", but after HoI 3...

You can always just mod the doctrine and choose not to use the battle planner. It's not like it's mandatory, really.

I suspect the battle planner is also controlling how the AI moves units, so removing it probably isn't possible at this stage. I don't like to vent or be non-constructive on the board...but I figure 1800 hours of play entitles me to one howl of agony.

On a practical note, the battle planner can be used to get your units to a position. It works well enough for invasions and paradrops, provided you delete the order immediately after landing. Any actual important ground combat I micro.

I am playing a game as USA and I am getting a lot more command power than I had in 1.6.1. I only noticed because I could send an attache to China immediately and didn't have to wait like before. Also the AI is more willing to accept attache's now. Before I had to have +20 relations and this time they were happy to take it +8. It certainly makes things easier on me, but not sure if intentional.
