Great update,
Not a bug. It was previously mentioned by devs in other post mtg posts that although the US for example used trucks, they did not have an org chart (or any units using said org chart) in reality; in other words, no motorized infantry. Although they have the equipment necessary to develop them, the work was never done in real life to form such units.
... so you are supposed to spend 30 army xp to get a template everyone else unlocks for free?

Had been toying around with playing Guanxi all evening yesterday. In all my (shortly after abandoned) games the Chinese fell victim to 1-2 major naval invasions that meet minimal, if any, resistance, often as eary as in the 1st or 2nd month of war. In all four of those games Nat. China was only days from surrender or had already surrended before even Shanxi did.
SHANXI. I'd say this paints a pretty obvious picture of the reason why Japan wins that war far too early this often.

On one hand I am pretty pleased with how the improvements to naval invasion AI turned out. On the other hand it would be nice if anybody could tell the chinese, that guarding your major ports MIGHT be a good idea when fighting a superior opponent that has total control in your waters.

Thisis the ’garrison ratio in peacetime’ bug that has been in the game a long time. Recap: ”-No matter how you tune the garrison ratio in defines.lua it only works when there is war and a normal front. In peace time CHI AI sill have 8 units on garrison order vs 100 on the frontline. Even if the ratio is say 30% and it has plenty of garrison role units. When war breaks out the garrison ratio works and the mega shuffling starts to move many of the units to the garrison order from the frontline. But its too late, one of the JAP invasions have already landed in an un-guarded port.”

Why on earth did the Chamberlain event need changing anyway?

My guess is they changed it for singleplayer, so AI ENG would do the speech events sooner, allowing a player USA to help AI ENG faster. Not at all the correct way to solve AI issues IMO.

So if I go non-ironman I should be good then? ie. fixes a lot of important stuff and is better than going without?

Yes, if you are not playing ironman, I'd recommend playing the beta, because there are so many bugfixes. Personally I have weekly autosaves on beta though.

Unless you are the kind of person who throws the computer across the room if the game crashes.

I'm curious to why torpedos were given more hit chance, considering the naval meta right now is to just mass screens and torpedos were already pretty effective in that regards.

Japan would be weaker if China or USA had a focus that allowed the US/UK to send gear over the hump and the UK wasn't getting mutilated by subs. As is lend lease stops the instant China is inaccessible by sea, also known as the moment when China needs it most.

Speaking of which I don't think most people have noticed that Japan is far more vulnerable to subs than UK. The UK has a decent stock of materials available in the home islands, Japan has pretty much nothing.

I built a good sized sub fleet up as US in a historical playthrough. It was sub 3 with radar and 3x tops (no snorkel because it was op) + cruiser subs with fuel tank (the graphic was cool, sue me), spotter plane and torps (no mines because when I used those it was dangerously cheesy) for spotting. They shredded Japanese merchant shipping such that by late 42 Japan had no fuel, no materials and no troops. I was able to send my transports unescorted on island grab invasions because the Japanese simply couldn't function. What few ships they did send out were so weak from lack of fuel that the subs were cleaning them up no problem.

And this was a boosted Japan that had conquered China by 39. Unrestricted submarine warfare in 1.6.1 was just too much. Hopefully the changes will make life easier for the AI.

Ideally we could also see a distinction between standard troop transport convoys (about the same difficulty of spotting as standard freight convoys) and amphibious invasion transports (easy to spot). This distinction would ensure that invading places requires prep and serious control of the sea while simply moving troops with a troop ship between friendly ports isn't particularly challenging. This would save the lives of millions of UK and Japanese soldiers under AI control.

I second this suggestion. It's basically over for Chiang Kai-shek in-game once Nationalist China loses all access to the sea because of Japanese forces occupying all ports. (If not the Guangxi Clique retaining control over the remaining ports, which would not allow lend-lease from other countries like USA in-game)

Also, I do hope there are improvements to AI China like:
- Having divisions entrench themselves more once "War of Resistance" focus is taken
- Only start launching counterattacks once "War of National Liberation" focus is taken
- Should Nanjing fall to JAP (OR 20-30% Surrender Progress for CHI), CHI should start gathering more PP to put Soong Mei-Ling (First Lady of the Republic) as an adviser, thus allowing USA to begin aiding the Chinese through the "Support the Anti-Fascist War" decisions. (Historically, the pro-China lobby in the USA began gathering more support following the fall of most Chinese coastal cities to Japan)

(Yes I have suggested this already in the previous Dev Diary though I feel compelled to suggest it again since Japan still keeps winning even in Historical Mode)
