Something that needs to be addressed is the fact that Daniel was able to draw a single line using the "battle plan" systems in the winter of January and with little or no problems, make it to the Urals in like six months. He is also able to wage war against the SU, Sweden, and attempt and amphibious invasion of the UK simultaneously. I guess it can be chocked-up to balance, but one thing I STRONGLY dislike is that it seems with minimal effort invested into battle plans, conquests are possible.

If Germany is to be victorious, it should require much more than simply drawing a line straight down.

Just my opinion. Game looks fantastic though.

As I just linked to in the post above yours, balance isn't the only issue. One of the best, if not the best HOI4 player at the Paradox office managed to beat the AI USSR with Germany. Keep in mind as said proper AI is one of the last things to be fully implemented.

Also, he got bogged down and messed up in Sweden, and I wouldn't exactly call his preparations of invading the UK an "attempt".

Yeah, I was actually writing my response before you posted it - had to go to the bathroom so I didn't have a refreshed version of the forum.

I still argue that drawing a line in the middle of the map and then observing an almost total victory is a little worrisome. I am simply saying that I understand why the OP feels the way that he does.

It was a total victory because the Soviet Union was absolutely destroyed from the Trotskyite Coup, had Beta AI, and was going against an experienced player.

Take for instance Sweden. The German player drew a line there, but that wasn't a total, easy victory. The invasion of Sweden went very poorly. I doubt in the final release of the game, it's going to be as easy as drawing a line and then defeating the Soviet Union. You'll probably have to redo your plan and improvise as the invasion goes on, since the AI will be more comptent and can deal with invaders more efficiently.

It would be worrisome if it stays that way. But you know: "beta since 4 days", I am quite confident that it won´t stay that way, they could release it now (*like HOI3) but they said 3-6 month after beta is release. Why would they spend so much time..... drinking coffee and watching porn ?

I personally think the op has a point. I'll admit that I'm a fanboy. I've read every dd and have watched every www. I even follow Johan's twitter account just for updates. But I too, am starting to get the sense that this game is going to be overly simplistic for lack of a better term. The things I liked about this series was the history and depth that it presented. I'm haven't really seen that much in the videos. But at the end of the day, I'm still going to buy the game presale regardless just cause I love PDI. Besides, look at vanilla HOI3, it sorta sucked, then the mods came in and 6 years later I'm still playing it...

Just to be clear here: people aren't criticising OP because he has a negative opinion of HOI4, people are criticising him for having such a drastic opinion without having even played the game, literally giving no reason other than 'iamma eat my pizza now and while i do that i ll attack soviet union', all while insulting everyone else.

Yeah, we are not making fun of him because he dislikes the game.
We are making fun of him because he is trying to insult the playerbase and the developers.
He had only one cause in his OP and in the following posts, and that cause is to start a flame war.

I understand that none of us have played the game, but we have watched a lot of footage of said game being played. In my humble opinion, and it's just my opinion the game looks too easy and dumbed down. Granted that it is being played by the people who built the thing and know every strength and weakness so they can game it in a sense...At the end of the day, I'm not worried because the mod community is amazing and will fix any issues that may come up and I'll still be here in 2021 critiquing HOI5 on why so and so feature looks like crap on my Oculus...

I believe you might be overestimating how complicated HOI3 is/was. My very first game in it I won by letting the AI control my fronts against the German(Playing as Soviet Union), and that was with fumbling around not really understanding what the heck was going on. The only "complicated" parts of HOI3 is to figure out what is going on in the Interface, and dealing with the cumbersome OOB.

I fear I cannot resist........

I am bias against the map because I don’t like the style and prefer a more map like appearance but I believe that Paradox have committed what perhaps is the worst crime with a design and that is too much of everything.

Their goal was to try and have as much information on a single map as possible a noble goal but one that runs the risk that instead of being of benefit to the player it will have the opposite effect and confuse the player.

Almost every aspect of the map is in a constant state of flux, as you zoom out counters merge into useless blocks that get stacked on top of each other while at the same time the political colours expand to cover the terrain map, as you zoom in the opposite effect with the counters exploding outwards across a terrain map that is now left with the remnants of the political map washed up on its borders like some frothy scum.

The borders themselves are clunky as are the ridiculously large rivers and in amongst all this mess you have large historically accurate butt ugly models that spend half their time trying to avoid stepping on each other or the Counters.

We could add the Day Night cycle but that seems to be fading into the realm of embarrassing memories.

Game play wise it is less cut and dry but there is an overall sense that HOI I V like the map is an iteration of games like EU IV and CK II rather then of HOI III.

You build your musket men, cavalry and cannons put them under the command of a General or a mini-me General and send them out to fight making sure your industry is churning out replacements.

It vaguely looks like it has something to do with WWII but its hard to tell if it will work fuel for example has been replaced with something akin to fodder the less fodder you have the more of your tanks will starve I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky that no one decided to have emaciated looking models.

Of course Battle Plans must surely mean it is WWII mind you the greatest player to date of HOI IV did not bother to use them which I suspect was a wise choice.

Before anyone blows a gasket the above is slightly tongue in cheek as I am sure Paradox will turn out a good working and fun game that can be played by all the family it is still however up in the air if it will have anything to do with WWII but it could still be brilliant.

I completely agree. From watching the vids, it's looks like it plays more like EU WWII, instead of HOI. But all of our gripes about features are irrelevant, it's in Beta now. So we are getting this just without all the bugs.

None of you guys know me, simply because I don't post here too often. This is mostly because I don't like interacting with people on official forums because in my opinion they tend to be too "passionate" about the game and I don't really feel like they can take criticism at all. And also I know better than to argue over bunch of things that I know for sure not gonna change just because I didn't like it. But still sometimes I come here and express my opinions when I see something extreme. It might be good or bad. Depends on the game, honestly.

But today, sadly, it's not gonna be good. While it's obvious that OP had unorthodox methods of describing his feelings towards the game, I can't honestly say that they are without basis. I'm not gonna go over each feature one by one and say what I like or what I hate about it. But for me it's crystal clear that HOI4, overall, does not feel like a step forward, it actually feels like a step aside. What I mean by that is this, it's almost like they didn't think about adding on top of HOI3, which is what they usually do, adding on top of the previous game. But instead they thought, let's forget everything we know about previous games and let's just treat Hearts of Iron as a new trade mark and make it from the ground. Like let's make a different Hearts of Iron game. And I'm seriously not exaggerating when I say this, this game doesn't like it's being developed by Paradox at all, it's almost as if Ubisoft making it.

I will, of course, give it a try when it comes out, sometime in the future when I feel like it. But I honestly have really low expectations. And I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't enjoy it as much as I did HOI3 and HOI2. On the other hand I have really high expectations for Stellaris, so I might just end up playing it for a long time instead of HOI4.
