Unless the AI is actually going to put people on VPs and leave them there, while also effectively guarding its borders from attack, its going to get Para-rolled.

Since we have no Air Supply mission its pretty clear Paradox wants to prevent the Para-roll that was present in HOI3, but the way to do that isnt giving bonuses to a bad AI, its to fix the bad AI.

The DD said they are working on changing AI behaviors to make it perform better. How are you ignoring this? Is it simply that they didn't explicitly state your pet issues in the text?

I play HOI4 with my kid and it is a blast. If only he would agree to play more often.
Plan to get my brother into it, feel like multiplayer would be pretty good. Something to do while we wait for the single player to get fixed up.

Once again, disappointed in this Dev Diary. All of these other Teams are posting some really good Dev Diaries, while this one is once again, is a little lack luster. I would like some really good info of whats happening with this game. Whats being fixed, and whats being improved, etc... etc... Whats with the lack of general information?

I got really bad feelings about this.

Try not to be a debbie downer. It's hard work. yes the DD's could be much better, but I rather have them put more effort into the fixes themselves then a DD. The next one will be detailed due to them announcing the ETA for 1.2

Decent developments I guess, was hoping for a lengthier dev diary this week but it is what it is.

After seeing others in the thread I also get the feeling that something if quite off here. Keep calm and carry on! Don't let this games potential go to waste.

My argument here would be, looking at Steam Stats, 60% of your customers have i7s and thats only going to increase over time.

Did you go over each and every HoI4 costumer and checked?!
I'll take a wild guess you looked on the overall Steam user-base and applied it to the HoI4 user-base. That's NOT how statistics are done.
What's an i7 anyway? It can be anything from an i7 620UM to an i7 6950X. I guess the difference between 2 - 10 physical cores, 6 CPU generations and base frequencies between 1.06 - 4.00 GHz is hardly noteworthy?

According to Valve's Steam Hardware and Software Survey the majority is still using CPU's with only two physical cores with 2.3-2.69Ghz being the most common clock rates, I wouldn't call that impressive.

Great work paradox team!, HOI IV is now one of the best games I´ve played, keep up the good work!
Don't give them a free pass, but don't be an ass. They know they kinda screwed up, encourage them but don't reward them for mistakes.

Well, @podcat, you asked for it!

1. Curb AI division spam, by fixing manpower for minors and forcing them to stop building new divisions when they are running large deficits of the required equipment.

2. Code in restrictions which force the AI to stop pulling all the defenders from borders with likely future enemies, e.g. Germany pulling all but a handful of divisions from the Soviet border in order to invade Yugoslavia or some such.

3. Fix war entry for certain majors, especially USA, Italy and Japan, all of whom tend the enter the war too early because of the AI's kneejerk jump to instantly call to arms at the first chance. USA also needs some work to prevent it joining the Allies in early to mid 1940 unless something has seriously gone agley elsewhere in the world.

4. Fix the AI nations' fleet composition, so they don't always run with too few screens and get slaughtered by...well, everything.

5. Stop the massacre of troop transports in the English Channel. Recode the long distance path finding to SR to a distant port that is close to the destination, rather than moving to the closest port to the starting location. E.g. Italian units in Belgium being moved to Libya would jump on transports in Antwerp, move straight to the English Channel, and promptly get sunk; instead they should SR overland to Taranto or somewhere near there, and only then hop on transports for the short jump over to Tobruk or wherever. Hoping this is what @SteelVolt alluded to in the opening message when he spoke of better management of straits.

In reflection, PDX is attempting to address the primary concern, to make the game more "challenging" (i.e. fun). I'm just disappointed that pretty much everything they have described has already been available via mods. Its a fine line they have to consider though - they want their Vanilla game to one day be great, to stand on its own. Perhaps a decent to large amount of the community doesn't even bother with mods. I'm not sure PDX wants to start necessitating the need for mods, or having to endorse certain mods for this game title. Considering this project's resource constraints, maybe they should?

I personally use mods, and understand (as many of these forums do) that with mods, it will ALWAYS be better than Vanilla. Therefore I want them to address issues that CANNOT be modded, or spend time adding more items that can be modded. But that's me, and not a reflection of PDX's entire subscriber base - remember, its not a charity, in the end their #1 accountability is the balance sheet, else they can't even 'support' the product.

Where customer satisfaction is on the list, who knows, I would hope and assume its #2, and #2 certainly rolls into the results of the #1 objective - unfortunately, customers rarely concern themselves with their vendor's #1 objective, however they shouldn't have to. A good plan will have #1 and #2 take care of themselves.

Thank you for continuing to work on this game and tweaking AI. I know you said you're working on naval combat which is one of the biggest areas that needs a fix to me.

Concerning Africa id honestly say just make it impassable some mods do this already. It helps a lot.

I swear, half of the responses in this thread amount to "I only read the first part of the DD and I'm angry you aren't working on what you said you were working on in the second part of the DD."

So, lesson for next DD: Talk about the AI first because apparently nobody reads past the headline ;)
