Thats my fear as well. Its already hard enough to compete naval presence as Germany compared to France and Britain.
To me it seems like a massive nerf to both France and Britain, they also removed the capital ship doomstack, so it would be very likely for us to see Germany successfully invading Norway after MtG expansion.

Well anything that buffs the Kriegsmarine in an historically-minded way is good news, and removing the doomstack issue is a big part of this, as historically the British in particular were very, very wary of German capital ships being potentially out on the loose in the Atlantic.

Hopefully Paradox get it right - AI nations build competent fleets, use them well, and convoy raiding is actually a thing.

If not, and if it comes down to the ship designer being a tedious novelty that ends up being banned or restricted in MP, then all this may have been for naught. (That's the extreme pessimist's view, though - I'm sure it'll be fine).

It would make sense for the fascist signatories to have no hard restrictions, but upon a breach give the allies the ability to escalate as well.
Until then, the allies are the ones who should feel the blunt of the restrictions.

Unless Paradox have actually bothered to remove the German AI's 'don't build a navy' AI strategies then none of this matters unless you're playing MP anyway, because in vanilla the AI builds useless fleets of 1922 tech ships, and even if they do build a carrier (rare) then they'll never build planes for it.

I'm glad naval treaty stuff is being addressed, but it's just scratching the surface when it comes to issues with building a fleet in vanilla.
It could be a player Germany in SP as well, you know.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing this.
The first half a dozen or so playthroughs in MtG of mine will surely be out of Europe, just so I can see if they actually made it and how consistent it is.
I won't complain if it isn't all that consistent though, since it was a quite a struck of luck historically.

Having 30 dockyards and some 200 NAVs would be more than enoughto deal with the UK, but the AI never bothered to do it
It's a defective system to begin with, so I can't complain at the AI for not being able to exploit it, it would possibly break every game.
It's (hopefully) being fixed though, so that not even the player would be able to have such an easy time invading Britain.

The combination without NAV would be enough for ensuring naval superiority in the Baltic Sea, I expect after the patch Germany can at least match their historical achievement, occasional failures in Norway is tolerable.

Well, yeah, when the Soviet Baltic fleet is your only opposition, that much would be expected in any situation.
I meant really against Britain, the way NAVs completely decimate navies today is not WAD.

occasional failures in Norway is tolerable.
Yeah, as I said before, their success in Norway had much more to do with luck historically (actually, more to do with British incompetence) than anything else.
I wouldn't expect them to succeed every time, but just being capable of doing it at all, which they are not currently, would already be an achievement.

It's a defective system to begin with, so I can't complain at the AI for not being able to exploit it, it would possibly break every game.
It's (hopefully) being fixed though, so that not even the player would be able to have such an easy time invading Britain.
The ease of invading Britain is based on other things, primarily the Ai's inability to recognize coastline as a potentially hostile border. Since Britain and Japan have no foreign land borders on their home islands those tend to be very poorly defended. To the AI, Malaya or the Raj seem much more in need of strengthening than do the home isles.

Look at the US deployment when they are neutral. It puts a lot of units on the Mexican border and not nearly that many on its major ports. It simply cannot recognize the main threat properly.

Now if you add a quirky naval system on top of that, Sea Lion becomes even less sporting than shooting fish in a barrel.
