The clue is in the title of the previous tweet. The second focus tree is for Switzerland.
Presumably they have some market research on what kind of content the users want, it would be interesting to see that.
But it's definitely not the entire fanbase. I know I'm not the only one here who's not interested in meme content, and would rather see the resources used to create content closer to the core premise of the game (like, let's say, Spanish or Finnish focus trees, UK/German/Soviet decisions for invasions in Iraq/Iran, the Franco-Thai war, etc etc). There are so many interesting historical things that aren't modeled in the game, and so many interesting scenarios that almost happened, that would be much more interesting to see than commie/fascist/democratic paths shoehorned into every focus tree.

The day the devs invented the meme content stuff and decided to go mainstream was the day of infamy for the HOI-franchise. So sad.
I don't know how you wouldn't expect something less of meme-y nature with alt-history scenarios. In all seriousness, even Kaiserreich gets memey with how nations interact with each other at times. The US civil war in that mod goes so many ways that some times after the CSA actually gets defeated, FRA and ENG actually support the original US.
Its really odd.
KR is just silly throughout. Sure it has lots of lore and interesting characters and events, but it's not realistic.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but there's plenty of ways they could do alt history without being as extreme as some of the recent HoI content.
Kaiserreich is a fun mod but the gameplay is a complete clusterfuck. The game just doesn't have any mechanisms to deal with all the regime changes, war goals, new factions, and other random (literally) shit that happens. Non-historical mode is gonna be equally ridiculous in vanilla after this patch. Unfortunately, it almost seems like Paradox would rather create KR than the actual game.
While I fully agree with you that KR is largely unrealistic, I’m curious what exactly you think makes it unrealistic as a whole?

The thing that most breaks my immersion is how eager everyone is to go to war again so soon after the slaughter that was WW1 (or, in KR terms, the Weltkrieg (which is German for World War, but hey, some people just love to use German words where they should just use the English version)). With this I also mean the three- four- and five-way civil wars that stat within a year of starting the game!
We don't have access to their research but the little bits of data we do have are telling.
The most popular nation in Death or Dishonor was Hungary, entirely because of the option to restore Austria-Hungary. A few months after WtT was released, 45% of Germany games were Oppose Hitler. Also, the most popular mods are Kaiserreich and Millenium Dawn, which are nothing if not giant webs of creative alt-history.
An other point is that the alt-history focus trees are the ones behind the paywall. Features like fuel or reworks for historical paths are free. Granted, some of those gameplay changes are so large that it wouldn't make sense to have two separate versions, but it shows that Paradox is confident that alt-history will sell. If you play "historical", most of the changes you see are in the free patch.
I wasn't trying to be sarcastic, I was just pointing out the randomness of the AI and how meme-y it is at times.
I do agree though, KR can be a clusterfuck at times, but enjoyable still and well; thats how I see the game in vanilla.
Eh, there's only so many times you'll want to play the exact same WW2 scenario with Germany steamrolling Poland and France before you want some crazy alt-history shit.
