Hey. Digging through the SteamDB, I noticed an unknown dlc for HoI4. It's called the Project Avalanche. Avalanche was the code name for an Allied landing operation in mainland Italy. So...
Definitely preparing already for the next DLC focussed on Italy.
And to fill in the time we'll get another small Country-Pack for Scandinavia from some independent programmers, just like BftB, so they'll have enough time for it.
How the spoiler picture does fit into that I don't know that yet...

Maybe the spoiler picture is for the guerilla mechanic that was hinted for the Winter War. And hopefully it will come with the free patch along the nordic pack
All other teams have already released new diaries two weeks ago, only HOI remains. It has been almost 2.5 months since the last full-fledged diary. Hope the devs are doing well.

Eu4 and Stellaris have custodian teams now, and CK3 was already working on a new release set for next week. I think Hoi4 is mainly wrapping up Barbarossa before they move onto Italy/whatever country pack comes before Italy
I’d say it depends on how well Btfb sold (I don’t remember if it did well or not). If it did well and it wasn’t a huge hassle on the team to manage some freelancers, then probably they’ll try to replicate the formula with a Scandinavian pack
If it was too burdensome and made too little profit, they’ll probably just go straight to Italy and a big dlc
Project Avalanche might be a DLC with Italy plus Brazil (participated in the Italian campaign), and Argentina (to give Brazil company and some more life to Latin America). Ethiopia, Albania, and Switzerland are too minor to include. However, Austria is a bit tricky to include as it would either be a monarchist path alternate version to Hungary or just be a thorn between Germany and Italy. Belgium might be the better choice as a mirror version of the Netherlands plus additional gameplay in Africa via the Congo.
Just checking Steam, BftB sits around a 50% postive reviews overall. Its below NSB (which has 72% positive), but did better than LaR (which sits at 42%). I think that they might give another country pack a go considering how it did fairly well, but not terrible. Country packs are also a bit easier to market as you only have to focus on the countries in question rather than showing off larger mechanics.

I would disagree. Brazil and Argentina would be South American majors, so would fit well with resources and trade themed DLC for South America. As for Ethiopia and Switerzland, I would say that they might include them, but I doubt they'll be large trees. Switzerland out of the two of them would likely have the larger of the two tree. If they were to do an Italy DLC, I suspect they will do Ethiopia, Austria, and Hungary (rework) alongside the reworked Italy tree. The only thing I agree on is Albania. Albania is minor power, and any tree would have to focus on preparing to fight Italy, or provide a way to continue playing after you are "annexed" by Italy.
I think the Scandi expansion will be a DLC because PDX has said they're planning for new features like improved guerilla warfare and more interesting defensive warfare in general. BotB featured only focus trees and such, I seem to recall.

Switzerland would be a sit around and wait type of game as they are predominantly neutral and have a low amount of industry and population. Ethiopia would revolve around holding the Italians off and getting other powers involved to help them which might trigger an early world war which would be bad for a divided France, an unprepared Germany, and a low output Italy. Austria could offer an alternative route to a Habsburg state the way the Hungarians do it but it might be a bit redundant. If they want to get Europe out the way they can opt for an Italy, Belgium, and Ireland with reworks on how Yugoslavia is partitioned. At the moment, even if Albania is part of a faction with either Yugoslavia or Bulgaria, they still get automatically absorbed by Italy no matter what. This is something they need to fix whereby making it so that Italy needs to either show force or go to war for Albania as opposed to getting it gifted every time.
Ethiopia is a country I would really like to see with a focus tree, but that pack needs to sell so I guess they go with at least one country people really like to play. Maybe Iran, Iraq, Saudi-Arabia and Ethiopia. The first two would be quite popular.
Or maybe Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and a rework of Hungary.

The situation of Austria was arguably one of the most interesting ones during the onset of the 1930's. The Dollfuß/Schuschnigg-Government which led to the establishement of the Ständestaat of Austria, anti-German and seeked alliance with Italy, at the time still somewhat anti-German as well, and other fascist or Catholic countries like Hungary and a potential alliance with Portugal or Spain. What if Austria manages to re-unite the Stresa-Pact?
Obviously the strong "Deutschnationale Bewegung", or simply the Austrian NSDAP, which basically undermined Austria from within, leading up to the Anschluss. Arthur Seyss-Inquart in the beginning actually wanted to preserve some kind of Austrian autonomy and even Hitler allegedly wanted to rule Austria in some form of a personal union, if you will, instead of outright annexing it. Yet they were pushed by Göring who wanted autright annexation and with how swift the National-Socialists took power, and caved in quickly. Sure, you'd be Germanies lapdog but a fun playthrough nontheless.
Not forgetting Austria still had a strong, socialist workers movement! Only a few years prior to 1936 there was a near civil war in Austria because of this. A red spot in the heart of Europe!
The Habsburg path or democratic path (let's not forget President Miklas was still head of state right up until the Anschluss) almost seems like a mere bonus here.
Austria could be one of the most interesting minor-minors there is!
And why would Ethopia not loosing always trigger an early world war? Hold off the Italians, negotiate a fragile white peace, and then many directions you can take!
Add Belgium to that list and obviously Italy and the DLC is ready.
What's not to love? (Apart from some portion of the mechanics and focuses being bugged, badly balanced or not working in the first week
Nah just kidding, but i do hope it works
- But we have MatRopert and his tireless work with open betas for that)
