Thanks for the diary Podcat. Nice to see these additions. The reflections are interesting, but you must know that a least a small part of the German domination in terms of nations played is in part due to their frequent quick fail against SU.

Go to Steam workshop, download some mods and you have 5 improved focus trees.

Do they also come with 3D models, new voice over, new music, new sound effects, new 2D models & art, new generals and new supporting game mechanics such as "you can negotiate freely to get new technologies and equipment from the major powers"???

Are they tested so they work with all the other focus trees you downloaded from other mods as well?

The ai is a long journey. Its going to keep improving for years, there are no shortcuts.

If I may, please.. I've got only one question:

- Mr. Lind, based on your knowledge of how the development of HOI4 goes, how much time do you think would it roughly take to improve the game to the point when people will generally stop telling others to stay away from SP game? I'm not talking about pleasing everyone, but specific major problems that the game has since what looks like 1.0. A rough, general estimate.

Nice, looking forward to Romania getting some agency! A bit discouraging to hear that things need to tie back to Germany specifically, but I'm sure it can be balanced with other majors and the rest of the world.

I don't get all the hate. Most of these comments are complaining that the game itself is broken(via ai, etc), and that the solution is to fix the ai and such not make more focus trees. But they can't put all of their people onto AI? This is a dlc patch, meaning they work on patch AND the dlc. Focus trees are going to be one of their selling points in their dlc. Therefore this dlc shows off one focus tree. I don't understand the problem?

Well first of all they only have one Dev working on AI, so they couldn't put everyone on AI. Also they think hiring more wouldn't help. Second I don't think any one expects that. Third I think everyone understands that this Patch comes with the DLC, since they've been doing it like that for years now. What I don't think you understand is the AI is the biggest problem of the game, and has been since launch. It's the thing that's most complained about, and what most of the bigger threads have been about since launch.

I've always said that if the game would've just came out with good AI like EU4, then this would of been a great game.

What is "his mod"?

The most popular raj mod on the workshop is a mod called "No Raj" which seems to remove them

I did a search and the only mod with "Raj" in it's name which modifies NF tree seems to be the following:

It adds a single focus, not a whole tree added in TFV, no unique art, it seems to be a test mod and the last comment indicates it doesn't work and has not been updated since August last year...

We actually considered the generic tree to be baseline for where we want the country specific trees to be, balance wise 8unless we think the country should be weaker or stronger than generic, see Indian manpower)

Some nerf of the generic focus tree, similar to the one the Commonwealth received, with a lot of "filler" focuses to lengthen the focus tree. At least, for the fist glance.

1/ Romania gets only 3 industry focuses. Most probably 3-4 IC total, less than the 7 available from the generic tree. ROM already lacked build slots by 1937, it will be worse.

Part of it is that the generic focus tree was/is OP from day one. Romania-specific, my main issue is the lack of build slots, forcing the player to attack BUL/YUG ASAP to have anything to use that CIC for (and deny Bessarabia from the USSR).

That is under balance discussion. Personally, I would like countries to be more limited in research slots because it forces the player to make harder choices on where to put their focus, but if 4 is too harsh, we will go with 5.

All the CW can get 5 slots going independent fast, and Romania is the most powerful Axis minor ingame.
4 slots just limits research spent on air and navy further Just tie it to 60+ industry if the current 50 is too low

Another solution would be to have specialized research slots - e.g. one for Air techs and one for Navy techs - so the player still have the possibility to diversify.

Just now getting to page 2 and I feel a picture is worth a thousand words and I imagine this is how Podcat is viewing this thread.

The community is just desperate for information that is important to them, and I'm sure you guys (HOI4 Team) really can't wait to give it.

Let's be honest: if the dev diary had not included a new focus tree, someone would inevitably complain that lazy Paradox relies on the modders to do the job, and how can they say it focuses on the Axis when the minors don't get any love.

Yeah that doesn't make sense. The community is perfectly content to let modders pick up the slack on unique focus trees (especially for minors) as that is something they can do. The community really wants to see fixes to things modders can't fix or really change that need to be improved. And if one crazy person did make your complaint, so what, it is no way comparable or equal to the current disappointment and criticism of the current dev diary by the community. I can't even understand how you could reason this to be a relevant comment or counter point to what is being expressed here.

But it seems people miss, downplay or ignore podcat saying this:

Several of the things we are working on are also very large things that take some weeks to complete, and it ties into the above. Two of these things are AI related and one is changes to air system as we said before the break we have been working on larger stuff for the Oak Update. Showing partial bits before all is in place is not very useful or easy for us.

This comparison does not work because the average consumer does not casually throw money at a car whereas the average consumer will throw money at a Paradox game, play it a few times, and then move onto the next game.

So long as casual consumers keep the profit lines up, Paradox will have no urgency to address the criticisms of those who are most invested into this game.

My main is CHI so I know that you are right and very strongly wish for CHI and PRC focus trees and events. But that been said, can you imagine the toxic response that a China-centered expansion would get right now from the community? I'd be a very happy camper, but every other Paradoxian would be like: "PARAD0x why u work on Asia instead of EUROPE!!!!!!1!!!1!!"

@podcat and team. Thanks for the DD look forward to further information regarding the upcoming DLC/Patch. Are the Axis nation changes to NF only going to be for majors like with TfV for commonwealth? I thought those minor NFs were great and now the UK NF seems lacking in comparison. Any chance of future changes to the Majors' NFs?

I think that after so many posts in this thread that you have made your point. You are not happy with the DD, you want more info on the AI. There will be more info in further DDs. I am sure they will eventually get to discussing improvements to the AI. Patience. Also, try not to attack everyone on the forums. Those attacks get boring and you seem to only use them to continue your rant, and as I said, we get it yer unhappy.
