I hope South East Asia (Siam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, maybe Indochina) get a country pack. Give Japan and the allies some interactions on how they can try to secure the area for resources too
Should PDX @podcat push for a Southeast Asia Country Pack, I'm about to stretch my muscles in excitement. I already have lots of things to suggest to make Southeast Asia even more immersive than it currently is in-game. :)

I think it would be more immersive if the player had to chose and select every single departure and arrival time for every single train during the entire second world war
If it's not at least as complex as Railroad Tycoon 3, I'll be terribly disappointed and probably only manage about 500 hours before declaring it broken and litterally unplayable.

Since we're talking about it, I figure it's worth trying to ask again: will trucks use fuel when delivering supply?

Good question. Also related: Will trucks use manpower? That was one of the great manpower drains of the war, logistics.

Same with convoys. The Dutch have a own focus that grant them free manpower. The only issue is that it is based upon history, indeed, but that those men were used for convoys and not the Army, Airforce or navy at large.

Maybe you should suggest them now, because it's possible that s the main decisions of the pack (which countries) would be decided before an announcement is made.

For SEA, my choices would be:
- Thailand
- Philippines
- French Indochina shared tree
+ Vietnam unique branch
- Malaya-Brunei-Sarawak-North Borneo-Dutch New Guinea-Dutch East Indies shared tree
+ Indonesia unique branch
+ Malaya unique branch

Please do South America. Every other region in the world had some representation in plenty other games in some form or another, but every developer forgets about South America, and also Oceania (though they're way more popular).

Perhaps HOI can be the sole game that does a bit of South American culture right besides the incas and samba.
The border war between Ecuador and Peru, as well as Focus Trees for Brazil, Argentina, and Venezuela (at least). Count me in.

I'd like to add my vote for a SEA country pack, including a Vietnamese focus tree, especially if PDX makes a solid partisan system.

Yes. It's 2021. Implement WASD at least as an option like every other strategy game dev.

Now would be a good time to assign manpower to buildings and convoys as well.
I don't think buildings need more manpower as this is already covered by the fact that you can only have a certain percentage of your population as army manpower, also for example by Total Mobilization giving you penalties for manpower and women in the workforce giving you bonuses for manpower.

And custom keybinding would be nice. After they added espionage i always misclick in the hope of using a key to get into the spy menu.

Will there be armored trains in the game?

Armored trains were less famous than railroad guns, however, they were much more common and used much more frequently. Moreover, while the railroad guns were characterized by high failure rates, armored trains rarely failed and played many roles. The Germans commonly used them in patrol and anti-insurgency missions, transport as well as during the scorched earth tactics used in 1944 in Ukraine. Poles used armored trains as mobile artillery batteries, using the "hit and run" tactic. They were so effective in this respect that the Polish armored trains became the terror of the Wehrmacht in 1939. The Germans were not helped by the air domination of the Luftwafe, as each armored train was preceded by a sapper draisine which was constantly repairing the tracks and removing mines from the train's route. The Red Army also used armored trains. It had a significant supply in 1941. However, most of these trains were destroyed during Operation Barbarossa.

One of the most famous armored trains was the Polish Śmiały train.

So the additions to what remains of the HoI4 roadmap look like this:
Confirmed changes in yellow, things I anticipate in orange (we know the AI will be reworked, but we don't know exactly how, for example).
  • Improvements to frontline stability
  • A logistics system with more actual player involvement (now you only care once stuff has gone very badly)
  • Long term goals and strategies to guide ai rather than random vs historical focus lists, visible to players
  • Improving peace conferences
  • Update core national focus trees with alt-history paths and more options (Germany, Italy, USA, United Kingdom, Soviet, France, Japan, Poland)
  • Wunderwaffen projects
  • More differences between sub-ideologies and government forms
  • More National Focus trees. (Among most interesting: China, South America, Scandinavia, Spain, Turkey, Iran, Greece)
  • Make defensive warfare more fun
  • Adding mechanics to limit the size of your standing army, particularly post-war etc
  • Have doctrines more strongly affect division designing to get away from cookie cutter solutions and too ahistorical gamey setups
  • More usage of drag and drop and QoL like this. For example controlling template lists.
  • Rebalance ministers and ideas to give more interesting choices.
  • Improve weather mechanics
  • Strategic and tactical AI improvements

I think the "Have doctrines more strongly affect division designing" could also come with this DLC since we are getting a doctrine rework.

Soviet tree wise we do not wanna show off too much yet. It will have its dedicated diaries (plural) and its one of our more ambitions trees yet, both in size and in player choices. Soviet is after Germany the nation thats most important to get right for a ww2 game, and compared to Germany a lot more complex. Here is a little teaser (are those icons placeholder or is it a shaved marx?), feel free to speculate what choices hide outside the screen...

(yes I know center is on the left. Trust me it makes sense. You are crazy I am not crazy!)

This looks very promising! Not only is there what looks like 3 Marxist-Leninist options, but this doesn't leave out the possibility of other Socialist/Communist routes- something which very well could have occurred in the Soviet Union, as most opposition to Marxist-Leninists after the 1920s were still socialist/communist (Left-Communists, Mensheviks, Anarchists, ect.).

I am excited for what is to come! It's always great to see content which doesn't oversimplify things into Communism vs. Liberalism vs. Fascism vs. Everybody Else. It seems like the devs have gotten better at recognizing how important the differences within each of these ideological factions are.

Though, I doubt Hoi4 will ever have the problem of ideological oversimplification solved very well, due to the current system only supporting 4 options, which groups anarchists with monarchists, even though anarchists are communists, and monarchists tend to be between fascists and liberals.

Regardless, this is cool, and even this little snippet has me hyped!
