I would say that if Hungarian nationalists decided that they wanted a king specifically to strengthen ties with the fascist regimes in Germany, going with a German would not be the worst choice (German princes were also somewhat popular in a lot of places that ended up in need of a king). Besides, FF was not just a member of the SS, he was a member of the SS before 1933 - the guy was a true believer. It sends a very strong message to appoint him to the throne. (I also didn't want to use Edward AGAIN).

You are right that there are candidates with better connections to Hungary, but most of the ones I checked were (like many aristocrats) somewhat critical of fascism as an ideology.
okay I get your reasoning, thanks for the explanation! Still kinda think that the fascist king option should just be scrapped.

Why does Hungary still have Genetic Research and Production teams still? Oh and Political Advisors???

@podcat Is Romania going to be the same? What about the other 2 countries? Are they all going to still have Genetic Research & Production and Political Advisors?

They would have to rework the game entire political system for that. And Sza'lasi only was given power in 1944 after Horthy tried to ditch the Axis.
Still,Szálasi was by that time the only actual fascist leader.Others(Gömbös,Böszörmény,etc.) were either dead,left the country,or joined the Arrow Cross.And it's a bit stupid to have a random german guy leading Hungary.I don't see that much sense that the democratic path should be in the monarchist branch,it would make more sense to have a republican path.And I don't see any option in the tree (right now) that have any historical political path.Otherwise the focus tree looks awsome.

This Hungary tree looks awesome. Very excited!

RE: Austria. I just don't see a reason for it. We can make the Austro-Hungarian Empire through Hungary. Or Germany gobbles them up in 37 or something. There is little point in my mind for them to waste resources on a country that has no chance of opposing Hungary or Germany less than a year into the game. Some countries just don't make sense to play in a game like this. Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Tannu Tuva being some of the most obvious. Asia, Scandinavia, Iberia, Greece & Anatolia all deserve attention long before Austria does.

Also now that we have Aluminum in Asia;

Make Naval Combat Great!

Why on earth is Horthy wearing an army uniform?(!) He never owned one. Kind of also wonder why he's wearing a shirt that's been out of fashion since before the game starts.

Nice to see an A-H restoration path! That's enought to want to me to throw my money all over you. /Guy who many years ago made a mod for Austria to restore A-H for HoI2

Would be nice if we could get some clarification on how all of these governments are going to work, is Horthy the leader of both the non-aligned party and the fascist party? There really doesn't appear to be a truly "historical" path to go down, save for bits and pieces of the fascist tree. No Arrow Cross? No Operation Panzerfaust and the Nationalist vs. Arrow Cross struggle (borderline civil war) for Hungary? No kidnapping of Horthy's family and eventual signing of the country over to the Nazi party? Also notice that there's two Austro-Hungarian flags in the tree, one in the fascist branch and another in the non-aligned Habsburg; do both of these parties get a chance at reforming Austro-Hungary? Is there any way to stick Horthy up on the throne?

Was Hungary's historical potential seriously nerfed to allow the AI to join the Axis as (Fascist) Horthy? It was mentioned in a thread a few months ago that Horthy was originally made a fascist so that the AI would join the Axis with ease. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely excited for this tree and expansion, but I feel like too much focus was put on alt-history and the fan-favorite Austria-Hungary. Historical Hungary had more than enough drama to keep the player occupied and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little disappointed much of that is absent from this tree. Would have been fun trying to balance the uneasy relationship between Hitler and Horthy until it came to a boiling point and the former turned on the latter.

Regardless, am excited and look forward to checking this out!

With the proper, European spelling though, hopefully.
Fair enough. I could have sworn that I read somewhere that the Spanish Hapsburgs were spelled with a p and the Germans spelled it with a b. Either way I am wrong, but I thought there was weight to it outside of Anglicized bastardization.

Surely the Polish, Czech and Yugo trees make those countries effectively weaker (as compared to generic trees) in the early game. But that is sort of the point. Unless you want an implausible run with a minor or you want Axis to gobble up way more factories than they should, then those countries should be hampered in the early years. Surviving the Nazi's with those countries should be MASSIVE achievements. Just like India needed to be effectively nerfed (read balanced) by the new NF tree, it was stupid OP with out all the malus' one has to remove with the TFV Trees.

I guess I misunderstood your post from a few days ago. I thought you were going to give us a bit of detail concerning where and how much aluminum had been added to Asia.

Yea, but then I ended up tweaking like 4 things in asia, so I decided to do a writeup about asia later when all balance stuff is done instead rather than having to change stuff several times ;)

Looking good

However @SteelVolt when do we get to hear more regarding ai?
At least one more big ai diary is coming before release, but its a few diaries off. not next one or the one after is all I can say for now as those will cover other things.

@podcat

Can the ability to grant state when not at war be added? It could help with border problems. Suppose I absorb Yugoslavia as Germany and I want to give away Serbia to Hungary and Bulgaria or hand it over to Croatia. I can't.

Yeah, its something we've discussed since we already have the at-war version. Not for 1.4 though
