Focus tree looks really good can't wait to restore the Byzantine Empire with the new tree. Bulgaria or Turkey would be nice. Now that content packs are back, I would like to see the Northern Lights tackled eventually.

You know, I find that a bit... odd. Don’t get me wrong, Italy SHOULD be in an expansion, that’s for sure. But now that they are tackling Greece, and probably Turkey and Bulgaria, where would Italy fit?

Contrary to most people, I think Italy’s FT is by far worse than that of the Soviets and deserves more love. But I can’t see who would come with Italy in an expansion... Austria? Albania? Ethiopia? Switzerland? The first three are annexed rather soon and Switzerland... is Switzerland :) - they were 100% neutral the entire war!

In short, I just can’t see how they could add an “Italy themed” expansion after this pack is released. It would either be pretty much Italy alone, or Italy + 3 other random nations or so...

Anyhow, it’s just speculation, at this point. We’ll have to wait and see
I could see a ussr, italy, finland dlc followed by a Scandinavian country pack like this current one.

I frankly cannot see USSR without Poland - it is too perfect. Like a Poland/USSR/Finland DLC. I guess there is room for one more country in there, but Italy isn’t really like the others and maybe 3 updates in one DLC is too much for Paradox...? Not sure, I honestly hope you’re right, though

As for the country pack, as I’ve said before, I am biased and would prefer a South American one ;) , but since Paradox is a Swedish company, I think Scandinavia coming first is kind of inevitable

Very cool, but I have a question for developers

You developers are doing the national focus for several nations, but I'm a little angry because you did the national focus for Mexico and Portugal ?! But they still haven't done anything in South America ?!

very possibly South America is the most boring area in this period where only Brazil and Argentina only countries with the potential to have a good tree and it is logical that the priority of the developers have other more desirable priorities ahead Portugal and Mexico had much more potential and play than putting them in any South American country

South America was not involved in any way in WW2 aside from expeditionary forces.

The reason why Mexico and Portugal got updated is because they are countries that are neighbouring the actual countries/majors that previous expansions focused on,
PDX always attempts to focus on countries that are close to each other because of interactions and possible events/wars etc.
in this case Mexico is under USA's sphere of influence the same way Portugal is for Spain.

I'm pretty sure one day we will receive expansion for SA, but not until we get important stuff like expanded Eastern Front, North Africa and the overall Europe, Asia and Middle East where the war actually was taking place.

You make a good point. On the other hand, if the developers remaster the South American countries and a player plays, say Brasil, I imagine that by 1942 the game might look like a stop frame lag-fest. The game barely handles the thousands of units in the game now. Once we light up South America, the game engine may surrender before any faction does.

I have to disagree with you for two reasons, even though your last sentence was pretty funny! Your point would be pretty valid, but:

a) every update, paradox tries their best to optimize the game. I remember when I started playing, a little after DoD: when the game got to 1943, if I didn’t keep my camera over the Pacific Ocean, the game barely ticked an hour. Nowadays, even with all the new focus trees, due to the devs’ optimization, I can play for as long as I want - after ‘42, the game reaches a slower, but still very enjoyable speed, and never gets any worse. At least, that’s my experience in general.

b) the AI already spams divisions, even in South America. I remember one particular game in which Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, and Colombia had more than 100 divisions each, and ElSalvador had hundreds as well.

So hopefully those aren’t the reasons why the HOI team hasn’t yet worked on South America (and I don’t think they are). They probably just have other focuses at the moment, and, as I’ve said before in this thread, these country packs maybe our hope for better SA representation. Brazil joined the war in ‘42, only a year after the US, so the “they were neutral” argument doesn’t make sense either (especially as Mexico was neutral and it DID get a tree in MtG).

Let’s just hope it comes sooner rather than later ;)

I think there's plenty that could be done with South America. One event in particular that I'm interested in seeing in the game, and I think could only realistically be handled with focus trees, is the Ecuadorian-Peruvian War. However, most countries in the region experienced some kind of political change or tension in the time period, often revolving around German/American rivalries for local loyalty: prime fodder for focus trees!

It would also be good just for the devs to have a fresh look at the region even if there are no new focus trees involved. The set up of South America is based on bizarrely different standards than other continents in a way that impacts gameplay: note how frequently Venezuela and Peru side with the Axis despite historically joining the Allies; this is simply because they are classed as Fascist regimes, whereas other dictatorships who historically fought against the Axis powers are usually classed as Non-Aligned in the game.

There's also a whole bunch of historical leaders in Latin America who only appear in the 1939 start and are therefore never seen because nobody plays that start. Little flavour events like the one that New Zealand now has would be a nice touch, and also would not require full focus trees.

I really hope this will not create even stronger minors. Even when I play as minor I don't want to feel like I can conquer all world... Still think that there should be more difference of strength between majors and minors. Maybe there should be some additional options for playing as minor?

PS also I don't understand why people are obsessed with national focuses, it's least interesting part of the game for me.

Would be much more interested to see research system would be reworked from the scratch. For example ship building mechanic could work for research system. Choose research and then add research facilities to that research. And you also could build more those research facilities.. and could bomb them on enemy lands. @podcat

I've been playing the game for awhile now and I agree, Focus Trees don't do it for me.

You do realize they got a freelancer to do this tree right? It's not like Paradox is pouring all their resources into a Greek tree. They literally said that in this dev diary. You may not have read that.
I eagerly await their dev diaries on improved AI then and wish they would do those instead!
