I think the remedy to this is quite simple - read your history! In real life the conflict was fairly interestingly balanced, so balance with features that reflect the history must be possible. If you don't know how, look at the reasons evident in history and you'll get plenty of ideas about how to make the game situation at least as balanced as real history.

right.. so Ai, player, other players in MP will all act 100% as in reallity - the allies NOT mobilising for war till 1938/39 and beeing supriced that Hitler is not being true to his promisses ... right...

all actions that are not 100% historical would chance the "interesting balanced" outcome if you would travel back in tie... greatly! If the Allies would be suprised by the danger of war you might be right, but they are not...

so.. maybe make a mod with all the "historical colonys" but with all actions each Ai and player can do stricly scripted without possible chance.. wait.. it's a game... can't do this... you have to balnce it for the sake of the game... and they do it :)

EDIT: sorry, midread some points... nether the less.. all I wanted to say is that I am looking forward to see the balancing they are doing... not that it is not possible.. far from it...

  • Gaining warscore increases autonomy for a subject.
  • This is ambiguous. I assume you mean that "A subject that gains warscore will gain a corresponding increase in autonomy."
This system sounds very promising and nicely graduates.

Does this work with your allies? I mean if you are for example Soviet Union will this mechanic work with Tannu-Tuva? Or, you know, in Axis Germany was kinda dominating towards Italy for examle, so, theoretically, Italy could became dominion nation for Germany in some specific circumstances.

No on both accounts. While Germany did dominate the axis militarily, they never dominated it to the degree that they could, for example, prevent Italy from declaring war (though Hitler would probably have very much wanted to do so at times...). The only way to turn a free nation into a puppet is through focuses or war.

I hope Dutch Indonesia will be a puppet and gain its freedom if Germany invades the Netherlands and they capitulate. Same goes for other oversea territories.

Love Love LOVE the new concepts for Colonies. Finally a way to model the indirect nature the colonial relationship between colonies and metropoles that reflects the abilities AND limits colonial rulers faced in the use of colonial manpower and resources.

Does anybody over there at paradox verify that English and punctuation is being used correctly in these developed diaries? I spotted various grammar issues which plagued the article. Not only is there grammar issues but there are lots of missing punctuation like commas. The lack of said commas impede the sentence and cause it to not make sense. Many times I re-read the sentences in order to fully understand what was trying to be said. Paradox PLEASE FIX!

Thinking about this a bit more, what would your thoughts be on a Dominion as per the OP, but without the automatic call to arms. You'd almost definitely get most Dominions joining wars anyway (I'm guessing, given the Dominions join as independent nations pretty much every time), but if there was a war that was against the Dominion's interest, or the UK had been raising WT, they might say no (but you'd still have the close trade ties and the like)? I'd probably still have them not declaring war by themselves though - I can't imagine a situation in which any of the Dominions in the 1930s would have been that adventurous (or at least, any situation that is imaginable would have them so far down their NF trees to be independent in any event).

I think that would be a good change, because while the AI is 99% of the time going to join in the war, this would allow human players to not be forced into that situation.

Egypt did have an army (and navy) of up to around 100,000 men in WW2, but was technically neutral for most of the war in that King Farouk did not formally declare war on the Axis until February 1945. After sympathies were uncovered in the Egyptian officer corps for the Fascist alliance (as a way to break free from Britain), several officers were imprisoned and Egyptian forces units were generally not trusted beyond (neutral) border guarding and logistics duties. How you represent this in Autonomy terms I'm not sure - a Puppet or Integrated Puppet might work OK. The refusal of a call to arms seems a bit curious, though, for the vanilla setup.

Looking at the "possibly it might look like this" code for modding Podcat posted earlier, it looks like it'll be possible to set-up something for Egypt where you could represent their situation (just throw in appropriate opinion modifiers for Egypt so they don't go declaring war by themselves). Assuming I haven't forgotten some feature of HoI1/2, I'd say it's the first time it's likely to be possible to implement Egypt in way that's broadly historically plausible in HoI :D.

The word 'paradox' in your first sentence should be capitalized, as it is a proper noun. The end of your third sentence could be 'there are lots of missing punctuation marks' or 'there is a lot of missing punctuation', but not 'there are lots of missing punctuation'. In the fourth sentence, the word 'sentence' itself should be plural, since you are talking about more than one, which you confirm by using the plural form in the next sentence. This also means you need to replace 'it' with 'them' before moving on. Lastly, there should be a comma after 'Paradox' and before 'PLEASE FIX!' in your closing sentence. A closing sentences which lacks an object, might I add.

I have no clue what you are saying
I think you're forgetting something.

Hahaha, yes, when criticising another's grammar, it pays to make sure one's own is in good order!

On the issue of the writing in the DDs though, I think it's fine (and generally of a good standard, better than "good enough", that's for sure). We're here to get info on the game, rather than be versed in the Queen's (or the President's) English.
