Hi everyone I hope you are enjoying 1.9.1 and La Resistance. Today will be a smaller diary to let you know that we are putting out a beta for 1.9.2, and also to fill you in on what the plan is now moving forward into next expansion work.

1.9.2 Beta
Since we came back from easter we have been working hard on nailing down some stubborn out of sync bugs. Some of those still elude us so the quest continues but we have also gotten some other things dealt with. Click below for changelog:

- Fix end of civil war events no longer firing (initially reported on German Civil war)

- Fixed OOS related to different language settings between the host and client
- Fixed OOS due to differing ship name in combat result
- Fixed OOS when joining a MP that has not LaR with a client that has LaR enable while comming back from a game with active operatives
- Added basic land and naval combat details to hourly OOS checks
- Fixed save game formatting of AI strategies for managing production of army roles, to use text instead of unstable numeric IDs
- Enabled the abort on map error for when game files are modified in the installation directory
- Fixed CTD when showing the leaderboard before going back to the main menu
- Fix a CTD on related to clearing strategic air data and processing air activity

The beta patch thread is over here and includes info on how to opt into it :)

We have no release date on this yet, but its not planned to be a giant mega patch like 1.9.1. The goal is to deal with the OOS issues and mop up anything major we missed as well as do some balancing (some operations need a buff for example).

Future
Working from home during the corona pandemic has started to feel more and more normal for us although I really miss hanging out with co-workers at the pub or the like. We are very fortunate to be able to work on at home and not be impacted as heavily as other companies. Paradox has also been super supportive and sending us dinners from local restaurants (gotto make sure they are still there when we go back to work!) and the like.

As for development we are still fixing some stuff but the team is transitioning over to working on the next expansion now. That means that this will be the last dev diary for a while. We will let you know when they kick off again when we know :) If you want to follow work on 1.9.2 keep an eye on the beta thread. That said expect to hear from us from time to time during the work period :).

No news about desyncs? Playing multiplayer only with slowest speed, is a bit slow.

ah maybe not everyone is familiar with OOS = Out Of Sync. That was a large part of the diary update and changelog


Just for the record, I had to parse that third OOS fix for half a minute, before I figured out what you meant.
oh you mean the actual logs. Thats a mix of team members so it can be a bit varied in quality

There seems to be a consistent issue where even on historical mode, but more over every game I play - the mariana country is bring released by Japan as a collab government. Would be good to see this behaviour removed since is very ahistorical and unnecessary.

This whole "AI won't release one-state collaboration governments" - could that be extended to two-state'rs? What would that break? Is there a define to allow us to do that ourselves?
 
Hello would it be possible to make the AI:
A. Pick historical operatives
B. Avoid operatives with no traits (especially considering that there are historical operative quitely waiting to blow stuffs or seduce that general and steal his cypher)
C. Check foreign recruitment it seems to create operative with foreign nationality but taking portrait and names from your country. Soviet Bhutanese and Japanese Bulgarians are not that common. Note that for the last one I am trying to reproduce it because it seems to be linked with allies but Iam not entirely sure.

Edit those weird spies come from the localized training centers agency upgrade

How about tell us what the expansion is going to be about?
A bit early for that :) I will say that in some ways people will be surprised, and in some other ways they totally wont be

@podcat I appreciate the extra work lately on HOI4, but there are still a few things that I have noticed:

China still won't lose the "German Advisors" national spirit, no matter what (war with the German Reich, the German Reich doing the befriend Japan focus, Japan asking the German Reich to pull advisors and the German Reich saying yes)

There is little point to the Reichskommissariats, with the new collaboration mechanics, perhaps Germany could be given extra stability for creating one or more (also, if Romania has taken some Ukrainian cores, they should be allowed to keep them if the Reichskommissariat Ukraine is created, like historically)

Some French democratic leaders won't appear, like Daladier.

No Slovakia releasable.

Submarines are still a little overpowered, perhaps they can be given a cool-down period after launching a torpedo?

Stalin keeps killing Kalinin, it makes it that much easier to kill the Soviet Union as the German Reich if they can't get more stability.

Sinkiang joining the Chinese United Front, historically Sinkiang was a Soviet puppet state (along with Mongolia and Tammy Tuva), and did not join China in the fighting against Japan until 1943, perhaps they can have their event modified to say no?

No focus for the German Reich if "Oppose Hitler" is selected and the German Military Junta loses the civil war, if the German Reich wins somehow, they need to continue forward for the game to be somewhat interesting, and they need focuses for that, so perhaps for some added challenge, they get to still do focuses?

The German Reich doing "Around Maginot" while fighting Poland, this needs to seriously end, part of the problem is the German Reich can't do "Operation Weserübung" because it requires Poland to have capitulated, so I suggest to remove that requirement, and instead have the German Reich ignore both focuses until Poland has capitulated (and ignore the Low Countries completely if they are AI players), this is a problem because this throws the whole thing down an ahistorical path, and the focuses are a little too short, perhaps 35 days instead? And if the German AI or player is having trouble, just give them a similar national spirit against France as they get against the Soviet Union.

Is there any chance we could get at least a few more generals for Italy? I'd not mind them starting out at low level and it would also be acceptable that several of them are being held back unti we get an overhaul of Italy proper but as is, Italy really lacks quite some part of it's historical commanders. To give just a few examples for candidates:

But....but....
Usually there are more than 3 people to operate a panzer together.
It's a very closed space, so.....make sure everybody have a mask to cover their nose and mouth.
Also, everybody shall keep a distance of at least 2 meters. :p

@podcat Will multiplayer save games from 1.9.1 work on the 1.9.2 and will the desync fixes apply to them?

Also, it would be really nice if the other German Reichskommissariats that aren't already in the game could be added, like Don-Wolga, Turkestan, Moscowien, Kaukasus, and perhaps even a Siberian one.

This problem was discussed a lot, but the devs never respond on this. I think the better and simply solution is that "Around Maginot" also requires Poland to have capitulated or Germany is not at war with Poland

telling AI germany to go for norway in this situation would be straight up suicide unless we hardcoded a lot of allied behaviour or a special teleporter to oslo. It would hurt the game too much. Germany needs to do Around Maginot to make sure it is ready to hit the low countries fast. Its quite close to disaster if allies start getting ready to support france. imo timing is how we intend it as its the way that will work best.

thats a clear statemant and a very understandable reason. My suggestion only refers to the focus tree, so that both focus are blocked until Germany has finished Poland. That would only delay Around Maginot for 1 or 2 focus (into early 1940). No changes to the AI at all. It should do Around Maginot first, but not while at war with Poland
