Here is my own wishlist of things I would like to see in the future of HoI4:
  • Improved Division designer ( with combined arms ) and combat balance that makes 40w obsolete, and promote historical divisions ( A bit similar to the doctrine point ).
  • Carriers that can conduct stand of naval combat with their planes out ranging enemy ship guns ( worked in patch 1.5 ).
  • Balanced Kamikazes and NAV bombers / bombing of ships ( yes that means even vs convoys ).
  • Deeper Air Warfare ( Split strategic bombing into installation attacks vs airfields/radars/aa where medium bombers or heavy fighters have something they do best ).
  • Night fighting / Bombing becomes an actual thing for Air warfare instead of just a weaker version of day, making you want to get radars, variants and doctrines that support it.
  • Night fighting becomes an actual thing for Naval warfare instead of just a weaker version of day, making you want to get radars, ship designs and doctrines that support it.
  • Logistics that make sense ( if you capture a port giving X supply you don't get 3 times X when you advance deeper inland into 3 different supplyzones ).
  • Reinforcements that take proper time to arrive ( airplanes too ), and that can be intercepted on their way.
  • Trains and Trucks that need to be built in large numbers and used for logistics to support good mechanized armies and an airforce.
  • Industrial cost of things like convoys and amphibious landing ships is represented more accurately ( It's damn expensive ).
  • Balanced Transport Planes, Paratroopers, Airlifts of divisions and improved airsupply if your pocket controls an airfield.
  • Deeper economy system with some kind of base resource (energy/coal/whatever) that is needed to fuel Civilian factories and Synthetic Fuel, and can put a limit to snowballing.
  • Upkeep costs to field large armies, airforces and navies ( upkeep can include idle fuelcost ).
  • Arms Trade and more historical minors that don't have a ton of MIC and research/build all weapons themself but buy most from the big boys.
  • Manpower attrition and worse weather, severe mud and snow/blizzards on the east front that can stop the best German assault cold in it's tracks.
  • Better historical balance ( USA when played as a Democracy shouldn't mobilize for war in time for joining the war in Europe in 1939-40, that is not what happened historically ).

Soviet Rework at last?!?

Hydra will be a free update only so it wont come with focus trees or such. I might come with some cool stuff, but its not accompanying an expansion or the like. See it like a big tech patch. The reason we step up to 1.7 in version numbers is because of 64 bit as well as some other stuff we cant talk about yet to clarify the difference (normally we only increment major numbers for expansions otherwise)

Has something been done to prevent unrestricted German access to oil from Iraq and Iran during the war?
The problem is that Germany won't ever run into fuel shortages if the Allies let Germany import everything she wants (particularly due to the land connection). If you consider that the UK invaded neutral Iran in 1942 it would be more than plausible if the UK could enforce an oil embargo of Iraq and Iran to Germany once war breaks out (basically gunboat diplomacy).
yeah it would be nice if there was a way you could open it up to declare war on them as UK to stop the trade. Maybe something for the future. Atm the best you can do I think is staging a coup.
EDIT: I forgot but UK has a "Secure the Oil Imports" focus as part of global defense that gives you wargoals to take Iran/Iraq, so you can use that also. A general solution would be nice though

Roughly preliminary release date? Will it be big update, 9 months of development or small update, 3 months of development? How big priority AI will be?
If all goes according to plan the very rough timeline is that 1.7 happens before summer at some point but 1.8 is large (together with expansion) and takes longer.

You guys need to calm down with over-analysing the patch names, their named after real-life operations yes, but they don't necessarily have anything to do with the content.
For example, Death or Dishonor arrived with 1.4 Oak (reference to Operation Oak, the rescue of Mussolini by German paratroopers),
1.5 was called Cornflakes after the Operation in which the Allies dropped propaganda on Germany.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but airborne operations are unchanged since release, Italy is untouched and we didn't get a mission to drop leaflets either.

I'm glad that 1.7 will be a rework patch w/o an expansion. As much as I like new content, some base systems really need to be looked at and overhauled before more mechanics are added.

i mean, hydra works as a wunderwaffel (mmmm) and espionage stuff too, if we think of irl operations and pop-culture references, it s kinda good these are tied together, but i still don t get how can you guys tune a dlc around wunderwaffe stuff.. after all most of it is already in the game including very niche stuff like rocket interceptors

Can we have the option to delegate all land, air, naval operations to AI (divided by branch and/or front)? Also, it would be great if AI would conserve resources instead of making suicide attack until equipment/manpower runs off. This would be a welcome change for those who are terrified by micromanaging wars, yet enjoy production/planning aspect of HOI.

We are now beginning work on the next update 1.7 'Hydra' where we plan to tackle some bigger stuff such as 64-bit support as well as balance work. We will also be working on the next expansion in parallel and when that is done release it together with the 1.8 'Husky' free update in a later future. 1.7 'Hydra' will have an open beta when its ready.
Neat! In this vein, will you also update the compiler version? At least the linux binary seems to be compiled with clang 3.6, while 8.0 is the current version.

Are there any plans to do more with command power? It seems like one of those sad half-baked DLC features which are promissing in concept but never expanded upon because people who don't own a specific DLC can't make use of it.
Why didn't MtG introduce naval special abilities for example?

Waking the Tiger also introduced shared focuses, are there any plans to make us of those again? It seems like the various US civil war offsprings we can have now would have been prime candidats for shared foci.

Looking at the open 'issues' on the to do list, the next dlc could be espionage and politics, with hydra referring to either secret weapons, wunderwaffen, or the fictional underground organization, espionage. *(or both)

But for me the most immersion breaking thing.
like teleporting bombers, no offcombat CAS...
