Did I specify that I wanted a fictional 1945 scenario?

I just said 1945 - the end of the war in Europe (nearly), and then finishing off Japan (read: invasion) and a good chance of trouble with the Soviets.

I explained this in a previous thread some time ago.

Sorry, the poster above mentioned Doomsday 2, so I assumed the fictional Allies vs. Comintern scenario.

Not in the way it was done in HoI2, no.

An Unthinkable style battlescenario would be awesome, but an actual 1945 scenario should be historical (like all the other ones), so like March/April '45 or something, so there's a chance of Allied/Soviet engagements in Central/Eastern Europe, and of course the war in the East is still raging.

A Scn with '45 setting would really deserve the name Götterdämmerung at least. Which date other than Feb 15th would be the perfect start date then, beginning of Unternehmen Sonnenwende (Operation Solstice)

Hearing that HoI3 won't have free choice of any start date like EU3 does seemed like a bad thing to me at first, then I remembered that in 2 years of oning EU3 ive started at a date other than 1453(1399 with IN) maybe 2 times .

Well the main problem with starting whenever you want is the whole idea that they would be spending most of their development time researching the position of different divisions for every day.

In EU3 however I tend to choose numerous start dates.

What is the point ofa 1945 scenario when the game ends Dec 31 1947? Not enough time to work with. And what is the point of starting in February-April as has been suggested? Do you think HoI3 will be so easy that you will be able to turn the tide at that stage? If Germany would recover in April 1945 then there is something wrong with the game, no player should be able to do that no matter how good he is and if you plan on playing some other nation, what fun is it to steamroll Germany as USA or Soviet when all Germany have left are some children and old men?

I would rather like a scenario between the start of the war and Barbarossa and of course one in 42-43 when the war was still undecided.

Well, some people (masochists) might like the challenge of seeing how long they could survive, if they could last longer than IRL Germany etc... Also if the game was truely dynamic, maybe a player GER could reach a peace with the allies to turn the tide on the red horde (as some allied generals thought the german whermacht would be necessary to fight the russians, just needed to get rid of the bad eggs at the top).

Just my 2 cents...

Yes, thank you. :)

Some of us would appreciate an historical '45 scenario for this reason and others. And as for the what's the point? argument - think about the Allies in '40 or '41. They were seemingly doomed until Pearl Harbour, yet we don't complain about the obvious inclusion of such scenarios.

Also, remember that HoI2 gave us a Battle of the Bulge scenario. A player is able to turn the tide in the Ardennes then, so why not in a full scenario? :)

It'd be my favourite scenario, and I am sure many others would play it. If you don't like it, don't play it, as I don't play the '38 scenario...

I'm sure it wont be long until a notimelimit mod will be out

Okay, Germany trying to turn the tide in a Wacht am Rhein Scn (Dec 16 1944) would probably be more promising game-wise. But January 1945 saw nonetheless various large-scale operations like f.e. Operations Konrad and Nordwind, aiming at keeping the allies at bay and would make for great Scenario startdates IMO

I would rather like a scenario between the start of the war and Barbarossa and of course one in 42-43 when the war was still undecided.
Actually we'll have a 1943 Scn afaik, even when its not gonna be a Zitadelle Scn which wouldve been my favorite

The fall of Budapest (13th February 45) could be a good starting point for that scenario. Volkssturm and the last reserves of panzers may still turn the tide of battle and of course there is the Wunderwaffe, the german A-Bomb and rockets which could be ready at any moment.
Like some of youve pointed out, such a scenario is quite for those, who need some real challenge, but dont only consider the german side, there is also Japan with "much" better perspectives than germany.
And of course the allies, who are racing for Berlin and still have to deal with Japan, and facing WWIII, who knows?
BTW is the 1947 ending date allready fixed?

I, for one, would absolutely LOVE a scenario that started the day before the Bulge battle - I'd be quite keen to see if I make a better job of it than they did irl, or even to cancel it, and see if I can live to see Jun 1945

Edit: @foriavik, yeah, Paradox have on many occassions confirmed that the game ends in 1948, and going by the original HOI2, that means Dec 31st 1947

I love the 45 scenerio. Being the SU, I love to see how many European countries I can re-organize before those pesky allies can liberate them. Nothing better then seeing a split Italy with a Socialist North and a UNIFIED Socialist Germany

Well we have 36, 38, 41, 42, 43, 44... not sure about 40 (there won't be a 37) - so a 45 is definitely needed.
