Misterbeans tutorials are legendary indeed! ;)

Thankfully, nobody except me remembers the first one, it seems. A rambling, chaotic mess if ever there was one. Hence the name "Take Two".

We are constantly learning in this game. It wasnt that long ago that I discovered that the Soviets couldnt refuse the M-R Pact. All of our playing and it seems no one knew that. Also there is no one way of doing anything, if your having fun and your successful thats all that matters. In the meantime any hints and tidbits we can get we are grateful for. We have a growing batch of new players here in recent months I believe it is important to welcome them in and assist them as they will be part of our future HOI4 community, your efforts assist in that endeavor. Thanks for your contributions! ;)

Thank you for the compliment. I have noticed the growing number of new players recently. Must be due to HOI IV's advertising. This is a good initiative, doing something for all the majors.

There has always been good people on this forum, those who have helped I feel its important to give back. These new players will be part of our community, we can help them be active productive members or we can suffer the consequences of our inactivity. I choose to help. ;)

Once I get HoI3 working again, I may offer up an AAR or two (my first on these boards!). It's a time commitment, to be sure, but I've learned so much over the last four years, it's time I passed it on.

Time will tell, though. :)

I have decided to follow your method and give Germany a go, however I feel as I have come unstuck at the first hurdle. I am using TFH but cannort find where I influence the USA. I can increase threat etc but no idea how to influence. I am wondering if I should download your 1936 save ? Does this unzip and get copied into the save folder ? Apologies if these are basic questions but I want to learn how to get into this game playing Germany. Cheers.

Increase threat is on the intelligence screen, as is support our party. To influence, use the diplomacy screen.

THE PLAN

I build my Armies on a 5 corps / 5 division set-up. For Germany each corps consist of 3 x (INFx3 / ARTx1) & 2 x (INFx3 / ATx1). My Armor divisions are ARM /MOT or WSS x2 / SPART. My the time war starts I plan on 25 INF Divisions + 2 ARMOR Divisions for Poland, 25 INF Divisions on the border with France and another 25 INF Divisions on the border of the Netherlands. I will have 3 Divisions of MTNx4 (along with MILx4) ready to take Denmark, then be part of a force to take and hold Norway. The plan is to take Denmark (thus sealing off the Baltic) and Poland simultaneously. Keep the 25 INF Divisions in Poland as an initial Garrison force and SR the Armor back to join up with the forces on the Dutch border. I will have 5 sets of TACx2 for Poland which will likewise get shipped back to the Dutch border (where my CAS and MR's are). I will have 2 x MIL x 4 in the 4 ports in North West Germany (where the UK can land) and MIL x 4 in any other port. I use 10 sets of INT x 2 on air intercept missions over Germany. Now plenty of vets can pick this apart but the bottom line is if im playing historically i have nothing else to do with my units. It is simple and effective. Once all the units are on the Dutch border that are coming, I invade the Netherlands and like a hinge swing down through Belgium into France. Meanwhile the 25 INF Divisions on the French border join the fray once France begins to fall apart. When France is done I take that entire Army (25 INF Divisions) that was on the French border and ship them to the East thereby doubling my initial forces there (now 50 INF Divisions).

At this point in the game my Artillery brigades are coming off production so Im filling out Divisions and re-positioning them for their eventual destination. I send 6 INF x 3 / ART x 1 to East Prussia (I like to have 2 full corps there for my invasion), I send 15 INF x 3 / ART x 1 to the French border and the rest near the Netherlands. When the opportunity opens up I begin building INF x3 / AT x1 to complete the above corps.

My start is pretty much working similar to yours, so thanks for guide. However as yet I do not seem to have amassed as many resources as yourself but getting there and I am at May 1937. My question for now is, how many Armour Divisions should I have by 1939 in total ?

Thanks for assistance to date.

YW. That is purely a choice thing. You start out with 6 Larm. I generally try for 10 Armor divisions by Sept 1939, sometimes I'll make 15. There is no need to rush by then, its mainly to have as many as you want for Barbarossa.

I have been enjoying following your teachings in this AAR. I have almost got the forces built and ready to go and its October 1938. I do need to start producing a few more ships and convoys though. I have not however been able to amass as many resources as you, with the exception of supplies but I can't wait to declare on Denmark and Poand. I am pretty sure I will have your recommended number of infantry divisions in place on the required borders by August 39.

I have tried to download your saves but for some reason I am only able to open them in windows media player, very strange and can do nothing with them ??

Is there a 'how to set up USA for beginners' by any chance ? Once again great work on your introductions for nabs like me :)

The saves are saved game files, simply copy them and paste them in your saved games folder. You cannot do that? Just keep spamming max trades (make sure you have enough diplo pts), sometimes the US or UK will turn you down a few times before you get what you want. Also its possible they dont have diplo pts or convoys or have traded the resources you want etc... Its helpful to tag switch to them and see whats going on. Ill get a US set up goin soon... Glad you find the games helpful.

Thanks for the replies, one more question and I will leave you alone (maybe)... What type of command structure do you have for Navies and Air Wings or do you attach them directly to a an HQ ?

I have noticed the USA start up, thanks,,

I see your infantry build was INFx3 ARTx1 and then threw in INFx3 ATx1. I was wondering why not just go INFx2 ARTx1 ATx1. Later adding INF with superior firepower. Saves on micro and a single divison can hold against armor much better. Plus you can spread out your divisions more so you won't have to build so many and use your IC on other things.
