I have few related questions:

Will future PI games have UI (user interface) designed more towards users with current mainstream resolution 1680x1050 and higher?

Will future PI games properly support multimonitor systems? It would be great to play HoI3 on my 3x24" monitors and on one to have opened production or research and on others to view (for example) eastern and western fronts.

Will future PI games have 64bit version (if such game can take advantage of more RAM)?

I also agree these are critical questions, and I really hope PI is considering adding support for these in their future game engine(s).

+1

I am bummed out with all the games that do not have interface that support higher resoluion and above all multi monitor support.
Hopefully the numbers from this survey can lead PI down this path.

GG can't do the same survey since they are a nice company and don't force us to install creepy software that monitors our system specs and possibly more without our knowledge... ;)

Well, then you should try Steam. It doesn't monitor anything, and the hard ware surveys are opt-in.

Steam Survey is OPI-IN so if user dont want to participate, all he need to do is click "No" - also before sending data back to Valve (owners of Steam) it will display all data that it collected for that survey.

Wasn't the survey done at Steam? GG should do the same survey on their website.

It was reply to doubt that most copies were sold via Steam - and its very easy for PI to compare total numbers sold via different shops.

About HW survey - GG doesnt have software installed on users PC so they cannot make reliable HW survey - users filling in some website form wouldnt be reliable and representative.

anyway, 55% of windows 7 already? and alot of 22-23-24" monitors

Not necessarily, 1920 x 1080 can be deceptive: My 15.4 inches laptop runs HOI3 in 1920 x 1080 (and it looks very nice might I say)

It has a good graphics card though.

I have absolutely no idea what my PC specs are.

Also, I don't think most of us brought it from Steam, I think most of us brought it from Gamersgate.

There is a quick way to find out. 1)Remove the computer power plug from the wall. 2)Using a paper clip, fit it into the wall electrical socket where the computer was just plugged in, while at the same time have one hand touching the monitor. 3)The computer's specs should then display on the monitor.

"Most off us" on the forums might not be the same the average customer though.

Unless you are actually comparing the amount of registered CD-keys on the forum with where they are bought aswell. :)

Those things can be checked yes... :)

Hi guys.

Here's some interesting results of the last months HoI3 players at Steam (where most of you seem to have bought it..)

OS
55% - Windows 7
25% - Windows Vista
15% - Windows XP

CPU's
4 cores - 49%
2 cores - 45%

Resolutions
1920 x 1080 - 25%
1680 x 1050 - 18%
Only 2% have smaller than 1280x1024

>80% have 2.3Ghz or faster.
>80% have 3GB or more.
>85% have 512mb vram or more.

Let's see (yes i bought it through steam), Windows 7, 4 cores, I think its 1680 x 1050, have to check, 2.8~.9 Ghz, 6GB ram, but &!*@&$(*!&* I only have the integrated 256 mb POS. The achilles heel of my 2 month old comp :(

I am more surprised by the purchase rates of the game on Steam than by the system specs. Why would Steam be the more popular outlet when compared to GG?

I mean, not to sound biased, but I can't think of anyone who prefers Steam to GG after they have used both. Steam isn't the Satanic Death Cult that some make it out to be, but GG seems so much better.

A different question is why some games are purchased on GG, but then require authentication on Steam (I'm looking at you, Magicka!).

Hi Johan and thanks for sharing.

That really fits to the "forum-survey about monitor resolution usage" I started here:
Thread: Wich-resolution-are-you-using

Look at post 133 for a pic of Eyefinity 3 x 24 Asus monitors from skrymir!
Wich-resolution-are-you-using- post133
Eyefinity 3 x 24 Asus monitors, so 5760x1080. Works well but sometimes a lot of scrolling and your neck gets sore turning from side to side so much :)

Will sometimes do 1920x1080 on only the center monitor if just doing things like reorganizing troops/fleets/squadrons.

hoi3game20110820.jpg

From ~140 posts, only 2 used 1024*768. And one of them, iirc it was Slan, only for modding in windowed mode.

About widescreen already available for HOI3 and the usage of it:
New-bigger-resolution-for-the-GUI-not-wanted
"Summary" so far:

UPDATE: Reasons named for not using a new GUI
1) Bad eyesight, use everytime 1024*786 even with the biggest monitor.
2) Not an official content1, could harm psychological health due to?
3) Not official content2, use only official releases. (Because of what?)
4) "Not official content3", how should I install this? "Because of low computer skills, afraid of damaging the installation because it's a mod."
5) Not aware of such a possibility("Bad naming" of the Mod in the past).
6) High resolutions makes handling hard. To press small buttons, zoom in and out buttons etc..(<- Mousewheel can do that to!)
7) Play generally all P. games in 1024*786.
8) Afraid of slower game experience, as ist was reported to run slower on higher resolutions.
9) Have older hardware that can't run higher resolutions as 1024*786.
10) I'm just fine with how it is in std-HOI3

Some quotes on a widescreen Mod.
(Even if it could be seen as a "shameless advertisement"..)
Shows clearly that some already really enjoy bigger screens.(Designed for 1280*768 min).
Interesting. What is in a name? Apparently quite a bit. Does the cloths make the man? Sometimes it seems so.

I think your wide screen mod is great. I use it whenever playing vanilla and it also seems to work fine with Francesco;s mod along with the Realistic unit..mod. I wish it would work with every mod-meaning I wish your improved GUI was actually vanilla.

yes chromos your mod is very very nice...what i want to add is that i had an issue with francescos counters mod and your mod....at the end i altered a bit the mods and now everything is ok.... :)

Chromos,

I installed your Widescreen GUI HOI3/FTM last night. Fantastic and exceptional work! Thank you very much. I look forward to additional publications, especially the GEM - 1001 Techs.
I ask your thoughts on an element of the Technology window.
I have never been happy with the small technology picture displayed on the lower left of the technology window. For me it is so small as to be insignificant. I know that the picture is displayed for only a short period during play while selecting techs to research. Nevertheless, I think a larger picture would provide “eye appeal” similar to that of Fernando Torres great work with models.
Thoughts?
Thanks again for the superlative widescreen GUI. Have a great day.

Hello Chromos!

I just downloaded and tried your graphical mod - great work, i have to say!

It is really nice to see the available resolution (1920x1200 in my case) exploited to a fuller degree so we can have more information at a single glance!

I wanted to add that the colored symbols for the different echelons of the command chain are very useful and add considerably to a better overview.

Thanks for your effort!

Worls like a charm for me, just wanted to say thanks and keep it up :)

I can't play HoI3 anymore without this mod. :D

I would be most grateful for a version that is compatible with Dies Irae in FTM (when the compatibility patch comes out, course).

I think that pics show clearly the advantage of already just some more space for the infos that this game is able to show us..

A surprise for me was, that so much use already Win7 and so many have still 2 Cores. Is there a big amount of Notebooks and such?

Best regards,
Chromos

I'll bet a lot of people don't even know about GG. I didn't until after I picked up the boxed version of HoI3 and started getting into this forum. I agree, GG is way better than Steam. The only game I've ever bought on Steam is Terraria, which you can't get anywhere else. I like Steam for free games and demos though.

Well, 2 cores have been standard up till this year, so it'll take another year or two until quads are standard. Win 7 was released 3 years ago.

Interesting. I actually upgraded my computer solely for the original HOI3 prior to release. And then due to the slowness, upgraded to a high quality video card about ver 1.3 so it would actually play properly. Would not have upgraded it it was not for HOI3...

So spent 15X the cost of HOI3 on a computer just so I could play it... And I don't think I was alone!
