So, apparently the average gamer of PI games (or, at least, of HoI) is a bit of a hardware freaky, having very potent computers (multi core, of more than 2.3 Ghz, at least 3 GB of RAM and a medium/high end graphics card)

If all your customers have more than one core, it's a clear hint your games should support that? :)

I have absolutely no idea what my PC specs are.

Also, I don't think most of us brought it from Steam, I think most of us brought it from Gamersgate.

well, quad and dual core is a standar since many years (my quadcore q6600 has 4 years or so). Ram is cheap, very cheap, so i dont think that is a bit hardware freaky n_n . Also >512 of vram doesnt mean that is a medium or high end grafhics card (but at least, is not integrated intel of course :D).

anyway, 55% of windows 7 already? and alot of 22-23-24" monitors

Can we get these statistics for other games as well? I'd be interested in the EU3 and the V2 gaming rigs. I'd think that the EU3 ones would be much less potent, for instance.

Well, that's nothing surprising as HOI3 practically does not run on lower specs PCs. I'm trying it on my notebook (not bad at all) and the game just crawls there.

They won't like me with my 6 cores :( My test games on HOI3 run smoothly with my 3.4 ghz 6 core, 8 gigs of ram, 1 gig of ddr5 Vram, win 7x64 - but I do get some lag later in the game if I run at full speed and move the camera around rapidly lol.

That's not neccessarily connected to Hearts of Iron or PI, but rather with Windows 7 / 64bit OS. Windows 7 is a bit hungry when it comes to RAM.
Also, I think you ususally get a multicore CPU these days, so anyone having a single CPU PC is sure to not have upgraded his hardware for quite some years.

Personally, I think video cards are a better indication on whether or not someone is a hardware freak ;-)

Actually, the Intel GMA HD is a surprisingly nice card for being integrated.
I wonder how many others like me are still using a CRT at 1600x1200, though. Of course, I don't show up on the list since I'm not a steam user...

Well, I got mine at GG, run a single core 3.8, 2G DDR2 and have a 512MB video card running @ 1280x1024 and all under XP. It sucks to be on a budget. I won't be buying the next generation of games until I can upgrade I guess.

I have few related questions:

Will future PI games have UI (user interface) designed more towards users with current mainstream resolution 1680x1050 and higher?

Will future PI games properly support multimonitor systems? It would be great to play HoI3 on my 3x24" monitors and on one to have opened production or research and on others to view (for example) eastern and western fronts.

Will future PI games have 64bit version (if such game can take advantage of more RAM)?

thx

my current HW: 3x24" monitors, 2600K @4.5Ghz, 8GB RAM, HD6870 1GB

Not many games support stuff like that, sadly. Fun part is, it's games like for example 'Enemy Nations' that support multi monitoring natively, though written in a time when multi monitoring was not even really available (back in Win 3.11/Win95 times), but only because of their window based nature / programming. And some modern games, like, for example, 'Supreme Commander 2' for example (I think it was, might need to reinstall to quick check).
I'll never get it why especially strategy games do not offer stuff like that.
