HoI2 Always crashes on sound

I had not played the game in awhile and used to have this happen before on occasion but on a reinstall to play again it is happening 100% of the time. The game starts, goes through the intro, but then right upon showing the Armegeddon screen, when it says initializing sound. It locks the game. I cannot alt_f4, alt tab, nothing will get me out must reboot system. I have an Sound Blaster X-FI sound card anyone else having this issue or is there some way of fixing this. Because as I said on my old system this happened as well on occasion but not like now where its constant.

My game is Hoi2 with Armegeddon and v1.2 update.

I'm not very techy about HOI, but I have a couple of things which might help. I assume you renamed the avi folder to avi_old or some other name? That prevents videos from playing which can cause problems.

Are you running Vista? That sound card can cause some problems with Vista; I don't think the issues have ever been resolved. I run Vista with that card also; I do get some occasional sound glitches in Victoria, but HOI has been ok. But I'm wondering if that may be causing you some problems.

sound problems

I've always played to DD, but now I can't play, because when I launch the game, during the "initialize sound", my PC is blocked.... I can do nothing, I must reboot, because ctrl+alt+canc doesn't work. My PC is: AMD 64 X2 Dual Core Xp, Processor 6000+ 3,01 Ghz, 3Gb Ram, Windows XP. Of course, I've tried to reistall the game (and also the version 1.3a), but I've the same problem: the game start, goes to the intro with sound without problem, but when it says "initializing sound" it locks my system. Can anyone help me?
