Hmmmmm?

HOI- Good wargame. Lots of good Mods.
Victoria- Good Strategy Game. Good people working on lots of Mods ;)
EUII- Good Strategy Game. Not as detailed as Vicky but just as tedious in later stages.
All are good but needed patching to make them great. (Johan is still working on Vicky :) )

Which one is better?

I'll take all three! :D :D
It all depends on what mood I am in that determines what I play. BTW, EUII, HOI, and Vicky are the only games on my computer

Victoria is better in MP than HoI - main reason: (almost) absence of planes.

Look, there is just so much a player can control at any given time, and the speed at which planes move make it impossible, for example, for a german player to - at the same time - fight the russians, the british and the americans and STILL keep tabs on all the planes at the same time. While the allies can, for example, keep the brit moving the land/sea forces and the american directing just the airforce. Except in stactic defense, the german has serious problems handling everything.

(and the HoI brit also has a nightmare adjusting the convoys).

Victoria, while being more complex, still allows for a player to fight on several fronts - except colonies - without being seriously hampered.

Still, the best of the lot remains EU2 ;)

I'm really trying to get into Victoria, but so far I only had 2 really good games. IMHO there's simply too much micromanagement and too much building.

I mean: You can spend years getting your country in a halfdecent shape with a reasonable economy. It's all: build a factory, increase railroad, build, increase etc. etc., where the focus, again IMHO, instead should have been on diplomacy and war. Just as it is in HOI.

For me EU2 is the best game, though it still crashes on me. HOI comes in a second place - especially patched and with the splendid C.O.R.E. mod (no HOI game should be played without it). I try to get to terms with Victoria, at least until Crusader Kings is out.

I prefer HOI over Victoria - quite contrary to my usual preference of grand strategy games over military simulations.

 One reason is the fact, that the lack of an usable manual was not so important when I got HOI, because I have more background knowledge about that aera and its military forces.

:( Another reason is, that the scripted events in HOI don't disturb the flow of the gameplay as much, as in Victoria, because the timescale is shorter. (When I played Great Britain in SP I made an agreement with the USA about the colonies in North America. Some years later an event took my colonies away (alternative was war), but the USA kept all I had paid for them. OK, that might be a case of very bad scripting, but I got pissed off. - I resumed to playing HOI)

At this point, today 4 Mar 04, HOI is better. But this is mostly because the historical events are much further along.

Vicky will undoubtedly surpass HOI by a mile for me. The fundamental model has greater depth, more realism, and the scope of play far larger. Further, i can see vicky being mod extended back to cover the EU2 timeframe with it's colonization model, so that you can run from the 1400's all the way to 1920.

EU2 is a great game also, except for the eco model which is a little too simplistic. Vicky's is just about right on in a number of ways. POP's, 3 levels of good requirements, multiple goods to force trade, ... designers here get a BIG thumbs up and Johan another one for his ability to code it up.

The only thing i would bring over to Vicky from HOI is the leader experience and rank features.

Great JOB!

I played HoI basically nonstop first weeks I got it and after few months (and patches) I founded it again very addictive. I have totally played HoI at least 1000 hours. Only after a week I get bored with Victoria. I have totally played Vic less than 100 hours. Somewhy I can't get hooked to it. World War II is much more interesting period for game IMHO. Researching and building military is fascinating and it gives you pleasure to watch how your elite forces (ermh... leaders in HoI) conquer the world. Too bad naval warfare is still very poorly modelled in both HoI and Vic. Hopefully Paradox will develop new realistic engine for naval battles. In Victoria there is not much interesting stuff to do. Upgrading railways? Bah! I can do this in Railroad Tycoon. Building factories and market is great, but all seems too confusing (manual gives more questions than answers). Overall I give Victoria 8.5/10 and HoI 9.5/10.

PS. I moved from Finland to Sweden. Now hopefully I can get Paradox games faster. Waiting for Vic few extra weeks in Finland was awful! Eh, getting Paradox games was not the reason of moving, but some might called this a bonus. :p
