HOI is a wargame, Victoria is a wargame.....

....AND a sociology game AND an economy game as well :D

Vicky is more complex than HOI, and has a lot more aspects to it, making it a great deal more interesting, IMHO.

I'll second gzav; if wars are your thing, go for HOI, if you like other things in addition, go for Vicky (me, I've gone for Vicky and never looked back :D)

I've got both EUII, HoI and Vicky. My all time favourite is HoI but I wouldn't recommend against Vicky - you just have to prepare for some serious micromanagement. However, since HoI is on budget most places now you could buy that AND vicky. This will ensure that your social life ceases to exist. :)

Vicky is an ok game, but HOI is much much better. I quit playing Vicky ... maybe after some patches that address multiplayer issues I will give it a try again. Vicky has lots of micromanagement, and is not any more complex than HOI, just tedious.

HaHa! You cant say which is better. Its all a matter of opinion! Is it not?

As someone stated before what do YOU prefer?...

HOI is more in depth when it comes to the military engine. The game Focus's on WWII and Grand Stratedgy. Short time period.(36-48). Dummied down economics when compared to Vicky. Historical leaders, Military leaders, and what not. A better game if you are into WWII/and or and easy online experience. You can actually get pick up games of HOI without having to PM everyone at the forums or make a thread asking for a group of players. Mass amounts of varying units, land, sea, air. Some real super Mods out there such as CORE and Stoney Road.

Vicky is a little bit of everything that Paradox has offered in the past. Great time period.(1836-1920) You can be a war monger and expand your empire(if you have mastered the intracacies of the econ/WM), or you can become a powerhouse through industry and social advances. As with EUII and HOI each patch just makes the game that much more enjoyable. Vicky has a mass amount of replay value as did EUII. Mass amount of playable nations. You can do alot more with a minor in Vicky then you can in HOI. I believe the AI is a tad smarter in Vicky and is only going to get better. One over looked detail and the computer can really make you pay for your mistake. Alot of Hotkeys for Vicky. Way more then any other Paradox game. Makes Vicky a lot easier to play. Alot of people ignore the hotkeys and Shift functions allowing you to place multiple RR for example.

I love em both. Play Hoi a little more due to the ease with which you can get a MP game going. SP Vicky takes the cake. May be a little biased since i havent played Vicky as much online as i have HOI. Dont see many people on Valkyrie net playing Vicky

I like them both for different reasons as stated above. HOI is simply a War Game, you just want to duke it out and try to recreate World War 2, HOI is your thing. Vicky however is more of an Ecnomical/Country or Empire simulation Game. Yes you can have Wars but it's not when you conquer all you annex (Except for Uncivilized Countries) you basically try to forge an Empire out of Uncivilized Countries and Colonized parts of Africa then when you fight Wars you only gain or lose a few Provinces unlike HOI where you can conquer The World if you desired. Also The Economy is more Advanced, meaning for War Gamers you won't be getting straight away into a fight but having to but have to build up a powerful Economy to begin your Wars unlike HOI where you only need Supplies which can be easily gained. Yes you can lose resources on HOI but not like Vicky, you really have to be good to balance your resources. Still out of playing, I tend to play more HOI since on Vicky, even on countless people's advice, still fail to start a decent Economy (I really am bad when it comes to making Cash) where as on HOI, no problem.

I adore HoI, even with its shortcomings..... Im still waiting to buy Vicky (this mth) as I waited to buy it from a UK company (supporting employment in my area ;)), Im sure when that comes I will enjoy it for its own sake, even with its own shortcomings. 2me, each game EU2, HoI, Vic and CK will be liked/loved/hated for its own features!

- Hey, IbalKid what are you doing here? You lost! ;) :D

I prefer Victoria. It's economic model is much more complex (and while partially bugged, more realistic it seems) and it's military aspects actually reflect the time's strategies and concepts. HOI on the other hand, proved quite a disapointment. Considering how well studied WWII is, that game could have been much more then it is. Among hard core wargamers (the real one, those playing board and computer games for 20+ years) HOI is dead and buried. Victoria on the other hand might be a rising star though (until Trench or some otehr more serious game surclasses it).

I don't like HOI at all... so Victoria is definetly the most better game! :D
