Okay, maybe I just lead that boring of a life... ;)

But in a long 8 hour marathon game of HOI I truly learned to respect the engine behind the game and overlook things like the trade system and the AI.

I was Germany, and there was also a UK player and a USSR player. The game played out fairly historically until the end of 1939, other than USSR making alliances with a bunch of countries in the Middle East, and annexed Finland, pushing down the UK's war score (so I wasn't at war with the Allies after Poland). In the spring of 1940 I invaded the USSR with a big force (should have been bigger).

He had a bunch of armored divisions in Latvia on the coast, and another large force around Riga. I tried to drive my panzers to cut off that force, but I took too many casualties (lost an entire panzer army with 2 armored and 3 mechanized divisions in the first offensive!). We eventually formed a front between Memel down to Poland, with my Romanian ally keeping them busy in the south. I managed to encircle and destroy a large Soviet army in Memel, and encircled and ALMOST did the same in Minsk (which would have completely erased their front line in the north and center), but their units held out and dealt heavy casualties to my panzers. It was now 1941 and we were both a bit exhausted... Unknowing that I had no resources left, the USSR player sued for peace and so now I have to rebuild. :)

Anways, don't want to turn this (officially ;)) into an AAR, so I'll sum up and say that HOI MP is awesome, and I recommend it to anyone who can click fairly quickly and has a connection that can manage. ;)

Yeah, I was curious about the micromanagement in the game in MP. A bit tedious?

Did you guys agree to pause every so often or play at a certain speed?

I have a cable modem, so hopefully over the holidays I can get into some of that action.

And the games do take quite a while. Spent 8 hours yesterday on a game, hardly noticed the time fly by. ;)

Yes, I think MP is going to have to be the way to go for me. The AI is just too stupid. Yesterday, as Nat China, I conquered Japan by 1940, then worked my way around Africa and landed super hi-tech Chinese Armored divisions (with heavy tanks) in Spain and drove thru the heart of the Reich. I'm all for alternative history, but this is beyond that, it's fantasy.

Oh well. Rant over.
