Does it make a difference as Japan whether you attack Mexico or attack the US directly? I was very close to breaking the US in late 1937 when they joined the Allies, and now it's a stalemate. Will they still join the Allies if I attack Mexico instead?

For me they didn't join the Allies, when I attacked Mexico.
Since noone of these two join a Faction, you can Peacedeal Mexico, while fighting on against USA. You have a nice border, and a good supply situation, since there are no partisans in Mexico.

For "I swear I’m not a Byzantophile", how do you go to war with Yugoslavia early? They're always guaranteed by the Czechs, and if I fight them both then the Czechs join the allies and invite them in. If I wait until they get annexed by Germany, then either they get guaranteed by Allies, or I'm getting pulled into WW2 with Italy on my side (so I can't reform Byzantium) because Germany's about to start the war against Poland.

Conquer the world then :D

I'm not good enough =(

Still trying to update my divisions to the new patch, but I'm pretty sure even with optimal divisions I won't be able to take on the Allies and Axis at the same time. And that's not sarcasm, since I'm sure some people can totally pull that off. Especially on normal difficulty.

byzantophile took me the most trouble to do. i had to keep on repeating it multiple times. following the suggested tip, id either get all of italy to surrender, but it will be occupied by germany and they wont give me control of the state even if i ask...then the game would end with me running out of manpower, or italy would join allies and would just stay and fortify in sicily and i have no way of taking em out, or in another game, id only need 1 more state in italy but germany wont cede control, and then uk naval invasions would defeat me when i run out of manpower. and finally in another game id attack turkey, but i would get stuck at istanbul and have no way of further moving in because turkey had joined the allies and i could not break through since uk inf are in there, and since i wasnt able to take whole of italy to core it for manpower, id lose the game since i would run out.

so i tried a different strategy of playing an ahistorical game, and not attack italy. its pretty rng dependent since in it, u have to join axis, and italy has to join axis, and u then declare on albania before italy forces albania to submit. after that it gets much easier, in fighting the allies in turkey....although u will be very very limited in manpower until u can take all of turkey to then change into byzantine empire and finally get much needed manpower (was lucky in that japan declared on allies, and then uk pulled some troops out of turkey). unfortunately u wont be able to claim victory in the levant and in italy for the extra manpower (although at extended conscription u will have around 3mil mp. the game would then be u, italy, germany and maybe spain against the allies and comintern. then your job to victory would be securing the mediterranean by locking suez and gibraltar, and repelling any naval invasions, as well as fighting in georgia vs soviets

I declared War on Yugosslavia, right after they stopped beeing guaranteed by Czechoslovakia. For me it lined up perfectly, since it takes a while to fabrciate a wargoal, while you are already fabricating on Bulgaria.

For me Italy always joined the Allies, but this didn't matter, since when I asked, I got controll over all of Italy, so I could take the Decision "Triumph in Italy"
Sicily was kinda hard, but doaable, with Force Attack over the strait and enough troops.

Gooing for Albania before it gets integrated by Italy, while beeing in the Axis was another Idea of mine, but since I don't like playing Ahistorical, it never lined up, since Italy only joins the Axis after integrating Albania.

I fabricated on Bulgaria and Yugoslavia at same time. Bulgaria first though. Declare war on Bulgaria but don’t win. Just get close to winning. Wait until fabrication is done on Yugoslavia then declare war. Now finish war against Bulgaria and annex. Did a couple tests and not once did the allies guarantee either nation and neither nation joined allies.

It's not that Yugoslavia joins the allies. It's that Czechoslovakia joins the allies after a bit, if at war with you because of their guarantee. I guess I can try to perfectly time it for when Germany eats the Czechs, but since I typically play a-historical it's a guessing game since the fabrication takes 240+ days. Or I can just accept that I'll have to war the Allies early, and bring Germany in against Italy+Allies if the Czechs join the Allies.

For me Czechoslovakia just stops guaranteeing Yugoslavia at some point, without beeing eaten by Germany. Sudetenland and stuff happens later.

Maybe it is because of a certain date, or maybe after Italy takes their Claims on Yugosslavia Focus or something.

Interesting. I've never had that happen, the only way I've seen the claim drop is from them getting puppetted by Germany.

Hello, just made Sunrise invasion and Tojo shot first and sharing my experience.
I played on Historical.

Against the USA, the key word for me was quickness, as much as i could.

As soon as i had the political points, i began my warclaims on philippines (it creates less world tension than claiming on the US directly). It takes 200 days if i remember well, and the USA joins the war.
During this time, i prepared an amphibious assault on Attu, a small island half way to Alaska. I prepared my divisions, ready to move when possible. I asked troops to my puppets too, as i will send everything to the states. During all the war, the Philippines did nothing against me. The US took me only 2 or 3 small islands but that's all.
As soon as war begins, i send my amphibious assault. One navy division is enough from Attu to Alaska.

When launching against Seattle, i split my navy in two, protecting the convoys as much as possible. There was one big navy fight. And after controlling the west coast; don't think i saw the us navy again.

As soon as i landed, i rushed a port to the south with a unit, so i can move a second army and open a new front. Repeat again to open third front. Only one amphibious assault was needed, to Seattle. Now the goal is to be quick going eastward. I opened 3 fronts at the west coast.
Los Angeles took me a little time to fall. Once you overtake Texas, the US tried some amphibious assaults behind me (on east coast).

On my first try, the US capitulated on october 1938. I made warclaims on Mexico just before, so it takes only 10 days. When declaring war on Mexico, the chinese united front joined them. It is fun but not cool, i had zero divisions there.
On my second try, i kept the US at 21% and declared war on mexico ... the chinese joined again.
On my third try, i declared war on mexico when the US were between 45 and 50%, and ohhhh the chinese did NOT join !
I think it was a matter of % of capitulation of the US, but not completly sure. I forgot to check the world tension at these different moments.
Though that chinese do not join the mexican war, it stays a hard part. Goal is to have enough divisions to down Mexico. They are not hard but still need enough troops to avoid taking the war too long. During this time the conquest of the US is slowed.
Enfin bref, i capitulate Mexico first then the US, and everything is fine. I took all the US and puppeted the Philippines. Now to Europe.

I don't remember when the axis attacked poland but it was earlier than usual. When WW2 began, i destroyed my faction and began warclaims on Great Britain. The Reich sent an invitation to join them. I accepted and immediatly canceled my claims. I didn't join the war ! While at peace i moved 2x24 divisions to France (they were occupied by the reich) and all my fleet. I prepared my amphibious assault on England, and when ready joined the war. I was surprised that it was quick and easy. During the peace treaty, i took all Norway and i received the Sunrise invasion achievement.

I made Tojo shot first with the same game.
I began my nuclear research in 1938. I bought the counsellor giving +10% bonus research. Though i began very early i still ended my research in february or march 1945.
Between 1940 and 1945, i kept playing :)
I prepared my planes in Mexico just south of the US border. Once possessing the bomb, i released the USA and dow'ed them (took 100 days).
As soon as war began ... boom ! And received achievement.

Voilà. If it can give some ideas :)

You can join the Axis before you declare war on Yugo+Bul. Then what I do is not call them until I have annexed those two countries then call them into the Czech war, who they quickly eat. That way you are back at Peace and can delay war with the Allies.

For the Byzantophile run, I tried historical focus OFF and managed to get lucky in multiple ways. Justified on bulgaria, then as soon as I DoW'd I justified on Turkey (quicker retake core state war goal).

Once I finished up Turkey, I started justifying on Yugo. War with Yugo brought the Allies in, but I took Yugo before they landed troops and then immediately joined the Axis and called them in. This kept the Allies busy, while I justified on a (still unoccupied) Albania using my faster justification due to war with a major. Took Albania, and then justified on the Miedzymore which included Romania.

Unfortunately, the Soviets beat me and took one of the states in Romania I need, so I had to wait until Germany launched its assault on USSR.

One interesting note: You start the game guaranteed by Romania, which has similar guarantees on Czech, Turkey, and Poland. What this means is that DoW'ing on any of those three will NOT bring Romania into war with you, as they also guarantee you.

I have encountered an issue with "My ships don't lie". It seems the US guarantees all of the american countries from the start. Was this always the case? I thought they had to do the Pax Americana NF first. Playing 1.5.2 beta

They guarantee from the start, but they shouldn't be able to intervene in the wars between guarantees until Pax Americana.

EDIT: And from what I checked it is still the case in 1.5.2 - they guarantee countries from the start, but don't intervene, as long as you're country in America.

Yes, I've quickly checked it in practice - starting as El Salvador (forgot to turn on ironman, and game now constantly crashes around the Italian capitulation), Americans do not meddle with your stuff until Pax Americana.
