HoI:IV vs Stellaris

I would just like to state (purely 'tongue-in-cheek') that at least whatever happens from this point on with HoI:IV's release, at least you can always say to the Stellaris devs that you managed to show WWW without any technical issues as it seems the Blorg may have managed to master inter-planetary travel but are somewhat lacking in the twitch.tv department





(Please note, I'm a big fan of Stellaris, and will be purchasing it on it's release as it's looking very good so please, don't get offended, this is meant purely in good humour . I am admittedly a bigger HoI fanboy however....)

Agreed! I recently started replaying Galactic Civ II and it's resparked my love for space strategy, usually I only like historical games but i'm quite hyped for Stellaris now

We have to be careful of openly voicing our support of Stellaris around this forum, I think I can hear the roar of panzer engines on their way here already...

ASking for a Paradox GSG with tactical battles is like asking for a Combat mission game with beat-em-up mini game for melee encounters.

The whole point of the total war campaign is to give you some additional imput into what the battles look like. But it's all about the battles.

Paradox Titles are Grand Strategy Games, which Total War isnt. Total War is an turnbased-strategy game with realtime battles in it. You dont seem to understand what an grand strategy game is. Its not about the individual battles its about the global scope of things. In an GSG one invidual battle isnt nessesariely important, but the whole war is. Even losing an entire war isnt the end of the world in Global Strategy Games, since you can most of the time recover from it and strike back.

It could be done easily....On the start of any battle you could be able to (play it out in Total War perspective) and based on your performance there your divisions get bonuses or penalties. You would be done in 20-40 min maybe an hour, and after battle is over you would be back in Hearts of Iron perspective of the game. And one day we will see something similar. Maybe not from this studio but we will get it.

I'll buy Stellaris after racking up a thousand or more hours in HOI4, because by the time I get around to it the base game will be on sale so no sense in getting before hand at least for me.

On the games, they both look tops. I've always had a deeper interest in WW2 strategy, but I'm looking forward to Stellaris as well, and plan to get both.

I really love watching the Blorg streams, it looks super fun...but probably not to play it myself. I've got almost 1000 hours in HoI3, so I am looking forward to HoI4 and I'm also excited to play Mare Nostrum

T34 with its 279mm armor and 120mm cannon is definitely better!

How about we settle which tank is best once and for all in a grand free-for-all ... in Stellaris! Each tank having its own spacefaring civilization representing its strengths and weaknesses

I am somewhat more hyped about HOI, but thats mostly since i've seen more of it than Stellaris (especially since I played hoi3). I feel like I know what I will get with HOI, while there is greater uncertainty about Stellaris since we have seen relatively little of how the lategame works. Intend to buy and play both though.

I'm more hyped about HOI, but Stellaris looks also great. I will buy Stellaris too. So i have a game that i can play, until HOI4 is released.
And i think, both settings are great. But WW2 is a bit greater.

I'd take HoI4 over Stellaris any day.
There's just a lot more depth and complexity in HoI4, and the devs also have been able to refine the formula plenty of times as it's the 4th game in the series.
Stellaris just seems quite incomplete and very experimental.
It also doesn't have much gsg potential, especially compared to how nicely large scale warfare is handled in HoI4.
I like the concept of Stellaris, i just don't like the execution.

Obviously in straight up fight Stellaris would win because scif fi tech > ww2 tech.
