I know that we have some excellent & enthusiastic modders preparing to work on HoI IV, such as @Ostheim @FOARP and @Vonboe and others, but I am wondering who else is preparing to join the fray. As well as wider modding interest, I am particularly curious as to who will be able/willing to create minister/leader portraits for general mod use.

My understanding is that these are essentially historical photographs which have been painted over in detail, and one of the devs said on a recent stream that they take about two hours to make (to Paradox standards, at least). Personally I am a huge fan of these portraits (as well as those for tanks and planes) but unfortunately they are perhaps not what I would call mod-friendly.

Do we have any talented 2D artists who would be willing to make some more of these images for the community? I ask because although I am intending to create a small mod (hopefully with community input) I do not possess any real artistic skills, and I am sure many other potential modders will be in the same boat. I am aware of request threads in modding sub-forums for other games, so that's certainly a possibility.

I thought that this thread might be a good place to bring together potential modders and find out what kind of things they are interested in making - graphical or otherwise.

I would definitely like to see some naval art made, as although tanks and planes are unique for the majors (and some minors, I think) I don't think ships are. From what I've seen of the naval tech screenshots we've seen so far, the portrait for all battleships look to be generic across the board, or am I wrong there?

Aye, the 2D images in all the naval tech screens we've seen so far have been identical (although that doesn't mean they may not have been updated since). I'd expect them to be updated when they do individual models - so I'd expect to see updated 2D cruiser art with the cruiser DLC packs (although that's just me guessing, it may not be part of the plan).

On modding, there's a bunch of stuff I'm interested in doing, but it's primarily gameplay rather than art related (adding in corvettes, frigates and sloops, and then whatever else makes sense in the context of the available mechanics). That said, once I've got the gameplay sorted, I'm planning to make some sloop and corvette 3D models, but that's a ways off. I'll probably work with CORE if it gets going, as that looks to be angling towards the kind of mod I'd be going for (basically fleshing out a bit more detail - we know, for example, that corvettes, frigates and DEs won't be in the base game) - but only if our ideas gel. There's a bunch of navally-knowledgable people about, including some who've been doing some good work on tech trees already (@Cpack has some draft trees ready for at least most (I think all, but memory's a bit wonky) of the majors, and 2D art to go with it to boot).

I will be bitterly disappointed if unique 2D naval art requires DLC. There's no reason for it, and that doesn't seem to be the case with tanks and planes, which we've seen quite a lot of and know that they have plenty of unique artwork. The naval tech tree looks horrible because so far it's just been default gray ships with indistinguishable variants. I want to see my Nelsons, Iowas and Yamatos in the same way we've seen all the love tank and plane art. :)

Maybe @Sideburnout can help us here?

My mod was to add to all nations a new focus tree, instead of generic ones to the not 7 major nations. At them moment we are working on the Balkans nations then to Asia Minor and then on to Asia itself.

My mod will be focused on covering the world history from 1880 to 2020. Right now the codename of my mod is "Project Truman" but later I will invent a new name for it. The mod will cover EVERYTHING: techs, politics, graphics, national goals, advanced industry and much more.
The mod will also feature more advanced equipment production. For example, there will be a distinction between uniforms (which will give protection in terms of armor and camouflage) and weapons (which will be also divided to rifles, SMGs, LMGs, AT weapons, etc.)

I might make some national focuses for the Nordic and (possibly) Baltic nations. How far I will go with that entirely depends on how much time the research takes. If it proves to take too long I might sidestep with another project entirely.

As an aside from my ahistorical scenario, I would be very tempted to put together a small naval mod. I don't mean something that adds a variety of missing ship classes (ala @Axe99) but just something that improves starting naval OOBs, variant/tech names, and adds another ship tech to cover pre-1922 vessels.

That would have to be a collaborative effort, though, I think. Again, I am handicapped by my artistic 'skills'. :D

A new nations mod, adding tags for the player to release as puppets. Also modding flags and focuses for minors, and possibly leaders and terrain, since apparently PDS thinks Getúlio Vargas is a communist :p (Or at least did so in HoI3. I do wonder why there has been basically no screenshots of South America :( )

I cant do any 3d modding for my life though, but i trust some good models will be made for minors.

Oooh - sorry - as part of what I'm doing, I'm definitely working on the accurate starting OOBs (right names for the right ships in the right classes, with appropriate stats for the ships in each of those classes) - both in 'vanilla' HoI and for whatever expanded naval tech tree we come up with. I've got the data together for the US, UK and most of Japan. Happy to send the data your way and for you to do it, deffo not trying to steal your thunder :).

The equipment systems practically begs for a good TOE mod. Maybe even TOEs for each nation, with options for minor nations to organize their army after the British, French, American, German or Soviet model.

Of course, that requires a few more equipment types like assault guns, mortars, Mgs, SMGs, heavy AA, light AA, medium and heavy artillery, pack artillery etc. It'll be difficult to find a good niche for everything and balance it accordingly. I have a few ideas, but it hasn't really become a concrete plan yet.

I'll have to see how the game plays first, though.

Modern War moved its page over to HoI4 from HoI3 at ModDB already too.
So if you're lokking for a Modern War mod.. ;)
