And more updates from my Italy game (up to Sep 1941):

1) Finland goes for Continuation War (event fired twice for some reason), the text is messed up (something like continuation_war_desc) and they get steamrolled faster than Luxembourg. Before the Germans get halfway to Leningrad, the Finns are annexed and invited to join as the newest Soviet Social Republic. SU AI still is placing way way to much troops on the Finnish Front.

2) The global resource shortage is getting worse, I've loaded up as the UK and see that they have 4000 steel left, which will last them for about two months, this is good news. They have and are building plenty of convoys and escorts, also cool. Loading up as GER, I see that they have about three weeks left of Rares, not very cool. They've installed the Resource industrialist Minister, but all occupation policy is on Collaboration Government so far. I am very curious if the AI will figure out it needs to change this to something a little more coercive to squeeze more resources out of occupied lands.

3) Nerf Support our Party. The UK is being led by Oswald Mosley and his Nordic League is at around 60-70% popularity/org. Not that this affects gameplay in any way (apart from Minister choices), since the UK is still in the War.

4) Regarding Resources, even my Axis buddies that have +15 surplus of something (I need Energy and Metal) refuse to trade with me, what gives?

5) 3 BBs, 2CA, 3CL and 4DDs (all out of date starter units) run into a single Brit DD exchange fire for a few hours and the Brit DD limps away, alive with 30% STR left. Could use a little tweaking.

Apart from that, the game runs smoothly, no CTD, supply makes sense, air combat makes a lot more sense, everything feels better and more polished. Can't wait for DDs goodies.

I got a German general Vesely in '38 (or before) with a picture that looks like a Russian fur hat, I don't remember seeing him before nor can I find him on the net. Is he authentic or a later Russian collaborator?

I have vista still and couldnt get HOI3 to fully uninstall so that i could do a clean, fresh reinstall.
Then I used a registry cleaner (CCleaner). After I uninstalled HOI3 I used CCleaner and it found 5 HOI3 files still on my PC. After running it and cleaning out these files I was able to do a "fresh" install and got the correct checksum the very first time.

I have a thread entitled Vista Virtual Store that shows where these files are. Next time you need to do an uninstall/re-install search for Vista Virtual Store.

I am playing Japan as of 1936, have taken Nat China and puppeted the rest, but now my chinees puppets are at war with the allies. Where as I am not, how can this be.

Tibet has already fallen and the Clique is in real danger, after it took Vietnam form the French.

Are you in the Axis? If so, then Germany or another Axis member most likely called your puppets to arms. This shouldn't be possible, but the AI can do it anyway.

Bitter Peace (by GER, me playing ITA) by Nov 1942. UK and US AI do not launch operation torch (or send any troops whatsoever to the Asian theatres), but instead launch operation Sledgehammer in Jan 1943, which makes gains into the Paris-Ruhr-Wilhemshaven line, but then gets pushed back into the sea by returning Eastern Front veterans.

Main issues I see:

1) Winter War starts in late summer

2) Strategic Resources do not really add anything

3) Naval combat causes too much ORG dmg instead of STR (not enough ships being sunk)

4) Soviet AI really really wants to stick it to the Fins.

5) Support our party too powerful

6) Persia goes Axis by 1940

7) Trading weird (as mentioned before)

Apart from that gentlemen, we are getting there!

My first game (ftmol) I'm playing Germany together with a teammate.

We have big problems with the new organization-trigger at the airforce. At SF the airforce was very strong in later war-years. Airforce was the 1st, which attacked invasors or partisans. Now, it's not possible to change airports quickly, because you lose to much organization. CAS, which should support your tanks and infantry is not able to hold the pace of mot units. You have to send your airforce 20 or 30 days before, to see you need your airforce fresh and strong planes.
At ground-attack the bombers get so much penalty of strange and organization, that it hurts your own economy, but not the enemy.
There are few aircombats, because the cpu have the same problem. In my opinion airforce was much better in SF. It would be better, if you would add escortfighters for the bombers like in HOI 2.
At the moment it's much to have better amor- and infantry-technology than build up an airforce.
The new navy changes support the big sea nations. At SF I enjoyed to hunt Bismarck, Tirpitz and the Italian fleet with the UK. If I did a mistake and attacked with a weak fleet, I lost some destroyers or cruisers, but most battleships of the enemy where destroyed by CAGs in the ports. Now, small fleets have no chance land a lucky punsh. Does anybody know, if submarines are more helpful than at SF, now?

Regarding 4) what I meant was that the Soviet AI assigns way too many troops to guard/counterattack Finland, these troops should be trying to hold back the Germans. I am pretty sure there weren't 10 Armour divisions (+ a lot of other guys) guarding the Finnish border in 1941.

5) Germany + Axis minors (not ITA) running propaganda from 1936 makes Nordic League supported by 70% of the population in 1941?

6) Persia should be stopped from joining anyone by their neutrality value if you ask me.

7) What I mean here is that Faction buddies with large surpluses refuse to trade with Faction buddies who are hurting for these resources. This solves itself later on when suddenly they do want to trade. The logic behind this eludes me.

I have a question about conquering countries in 3.04. Glad that everything being puppeted has been fixed, but playing as Germany it seems that no countries can be conquered - they're just occupied with GIE's. Have FtM correctly patched to 3.04. Poland forms a GIE with no message. After taking the British isles, Italy takes middle east and Iraq, Japan India and the East, I get the message that Germany enforced conquer on the UK. However, nothing changed. UK is still at war, UK territory is occupied not owned. Took all the Belgian colonies in Africa; took all the Netherland territory in the far east; Luxemberg took in 1940 - they are all still allies at war. Is it WAD that none of these countries ever actually surrender?

Many bugs can be "fixed" by a restart+reload, but they're still bugs, and they keep coming back. If they are so hard to debug (like broken fleet damages on the fleet creation screen, which is with us since HoI3 vanilla), maybe the game should be doing a hard reset on its own, perhaps while autosaving. Not everyone knows this is the thing to do, and I'm sure nobody likes doing manual reloads.

Can the game speed levels be reassessed now? I mean FTM is really fast, which is fantastic, but there is one drawback of this. Speed level 4 now seems to be too slow for conducting military operations, but lvl 5 is already too fast for effectively controlling your units on the battlefield. Can some changes be done to this? I mean lvl 5 should stay as fast as it is, lvl 4 should be slightly faster than now, lvl 3 should be as lvl 4 is now, and all lower levels moved one step higher. After all, lvl 1 is way too much slow, so there would not be any harm, if lvl 1 would be as fast as lvl 2 is now etc.

that depends on the system and you can't do much about it. if you want a slower game use a different speed level.

I support that request if it is possible to add without to much work. :)

With the new multicore speed-up it is easy to guess that max speed uses, well, max speed, while the ones below seem to scale up different. (Had just a testing of the "old 2.04f" and it is amazing how fast 3.04 is compared to it. ~1 second per day..whohoo..)

So raising them a bit would be fine.

Best regards,
Chromos
