HOI II unit sprites, simply a jewel

Taste can be so different...those pics by skiff, I totally dislike them. To colorful, almost comic-like, certainly not reflecting my mood when playing WW2 games. The case study by sideburnout though, I like. It's dark, yet clear, detailed and not playful.

Sprites and counters have almost nothing to do with icons...

I guess discussing if Skiff's icons are pretty or clear will lead us to nowhere... most of it would depend on taste..

What i would love to see is what is behind those icons.. the customization... the feel and look for each country... with generic icons you lose a ton of immersion compared to something specific for each country.

Is pretty much the same discussion there is about names of Corp/Army/Army Group/etc... each time i play Germany i need to rename all my Corps to Armeekorps... for me icons have the same role... its much more about flavor than mechanics.

I, for myself, used both SKIF and HoI2 vanilla, and many others. SKIF was good but in my opinion HoI2 vanilla were the best. simple, not too much colours or info, and good looking. FOt HoI3, never liked, too complicated and i did not buy it in the end

in somewhat misleading hoi terminology, I think these are usually called icons. Sprites are units on the map, counters are symbols on the map, models are pictures of units in production screen.

SKIF icons unfortunatelly not part of the vanilla versions of HOI2, were without a doubt one of the jewels of HOI2 (post-vanilla) I could not tolerate playing the game without those models installed! It was the beauty of seeing your army actually changing not just getting a different number (I -> II) (II -> III)!
If Paradox isn't considering putting something in that style for HOI4, at least make it possible for us modders to do it and place it on our personal games! That and the fact of having different models for different countries!
