I've never converted a game over to HoI2, but does the Convertor convert naval units like ships over? And how does it take the tech level into account? are only modern warships converted over?

Modern ships and transports are converted. Ironclads and below are not converted (how useful would they be in 1936 anyway?)

Techs you start with after coversion depends on techs and inventions you have by the time you export.

Flintlock muskets will give you 1918 infantry, mountain and cavalry divisions, but most starting techs come from late inventions: tanks come from whatever tanks you invent in Ricky, so does light, medium and heavy Great War artillery. Ships are triggered by whatever ships you develop. I think you can also get the starting nuclear tech.

Tech teams you get are determined by your literacy, techs, inventions, factories and luck (if you export exactly the same game several times, you will get different tech teams each time). There might be other factors. how exactly tech team conversion works, I don't know...

you also need to do something if you want the secret weapons tree to work, not sure what is required tho
Yep I'd like some feedback on this one as well - have played Japan all the way through Vic and am now in 1946 in HoI2 and have a a level 5 reactor and all nuc techs researched for over a year, plus all rocket techs and a level 5 rocket test facility, plus all computer techs researched etc etc - and none of the secret techs have triggered...
Is there something I need to do/can do or is this a bug that will (hopefully) be fixed down the road?

don't have it on the computer I'm posting from, so from memory.....

early(1 page or 2, don't remember) in standard scenarii(1936 GC for example), you"ve got a list of event files, as political events, secret tech events & death events.

early(roughly the same) in exported scenarii, you've got much less lines for event files. Add what you need.

Thanks for that - think I have figured it out - although I guess it means I am going to have to start from 1936 again - mainly concerned with just making the secret weapons events fire - don't think that the other events would really apply as the world in 1936 from my Vic campaign is "just a little bit" different from the set-up at the start of the standard 1936 GC

Thanks again.

You can add the name of the event file to the end of your save file instead of the generated scenario file. There's a "sleepevent" section, and just after that is a series of event="filename.txt" entries for the event files.

That way you wouldn't need to take it from the top (unless the deathdates for some of the secret inventions have already passed, but I think they are available to the end of the timeframe.
