Well when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. It occurred to me yesterday.

It's a marketing strategy, they're doing it to try and bring the HOI4 game to more people. Of course the people here on this forum already have it, so we aren't the target for such a marketing campaign. For us, they want to sell us any DLCs we haven't bought yet, so any future campaign would be arranged around that.

If they'd have said that openly and honestly, instead of the 'because more people' thing, I'm sure most people would have reacted positively and understood the reasoning.

Saying things openly is something that seems to be an ongoing struggle, not just here, but for a lot of places. But even if that is the strategy, I still think that they have too many fingers in too many third- party social media pots, and if they are going to announce it here, where the more consistent fanbase lies, it should not be exclusively for a third-party site that requires us to make an account to participate, and also that site is not very good on its track record for younger users.

Oh I agree with you. I was just thinking what was the real reason they were doing it as the one they said didn't make any sense at all. Once it occurred to me, it was obvious.

Who's out of touch here, exactly? If they get more engagement on Instagram (20x!), are those people not their community as well? You and I are both here on the forum, but it gets the most engagement from the overall community on big announcements and patch notes, not small giveaways.

I just disagree with comparing this to something like Diablo Immortal. Save that hyperbole for if HoI5 is announced as a mobile game!

Maybe even a PAY 2 WIN mobile game!

Do you have metrics on how to compare 'viewers on Instagram' with 'people dedicated enough to stick around in an outdated social media format, that being a forum', especially considering the fact that Instagram (as any engagement-driven social media) is riddled with bots and may contain non-bots that just scroll through content en mass without actually being your relevant target audience?

Only mild offense intended, but you do realize this thread is basically the PDX-equivalent of "But don't you have phones?!" Diablo IV?

It is actually possible that Instagram sponsored this event or maybe they have some kind of marketing cooperation going.

That is because most Instagram users only know how to post and not how to read. When they learn how to read they come to this forum.
