Reproduction is easy. Launch game w/ 1.62 beta and look at a ship design. :D

Speed on design/stats page is always double what it should be. Hover over tool tip is correct speed. Eg, tooltip speed shows 30, design shows 60. tooltip 35, design page 70kts.

The error is in the executable file. I installed the 1.62 beta but pasted the 1.61 HOI4.exe in and ran with that, speeds are as expected. Put the 1.62 exe back in, speeds are doubled.

Hi, I cant see either of your screenshots. Can you either provide new ones or reproduction steps? thank you

I've uploaded the images to imgur

as for reproduction, just start the game with the 1.6.2 beta (f107) and look at any ship speed.

it might just be a visual bug

Nope, ships are moving at crazy speeds, perhaps even faster than the fast one on the tooltip. Usually as USA, if you gather all your navies in say Virginia, it'll take a few weeks for everyone to show up, especially the sub task groups. But those things now come screaming up the Panama Canal like there's no tomorrow, and the fleet is gathered in a few days. Takes ~5 days for a Farrigut (listed as 78kn) class to go from the Philippines to the Panama Canal. That's a bit fast.

All, the bug would seem to be that the stats show KNOTS. But, I think they meant to put KMPH. If indeed KMPH, then its prefectly done. You can make historical 1940 BBs that can go 30-35 knots. The Yamato can finally reach historical speeds. Remember, KNOTS is Nautical Miles per Hour. At a conversion ratio of 1.852:1, thats 42 knots, which is a bit fast, but that might in fact be the empty hull speed. I already played around with this for 1940 hulls, and maxed out systems on DDs and Cruisers, and the speed possibilities are within norms. Any hull can go 40 knots, if you have no turrets, armor, AA, etc on it.

Play around with the designer, after doing research all in console, and you will see that if you consider the speed in KMPH (which is what I believe the bug actually is), its done just about right.

Nah, was in knots before, and if ships are zipping around the map, somethings up.

Also, numbers displayed are double what they are in the files, which points to it beeing unintentional.

I reverted back to 1.6.1 and continued working on my rebalance mod instead until its confirmed fixed. :)

its exactly doubled, which KM is not to KN.

also ship speeds have always been knots, at least from what I can find; its only land speed that show in KM.

as for if they are zipping around, tbh, I dont know. I wouldn't know how to check that, and, I've not actually played a full on game with the new beta patch yet (I've only been gathering data for my spreadsheet and sometimes hunting for bugs to report really)

however I can say that I do see two different speeds. the normal speed, and then in the ship display, the absurd speed. It is likely, logically, the ship actually uses the normal speed, and the absurd speed is simply a display error caused by the game somehow being told to double the normal speed. for that one display area.

also I'm a bit irked a forum error - that my uploaded images did not work (they still do for me) - has delayed the fix; but that has nothing to do with the HoI4 Q&A team.

edited to add

TO CLARIFY

the display is broken. When it should say 36 it says 72. the ship speed probably is not.

it is not showing KPH. if it was it would show 66, not 72.

True speeds are definitely increased. I tested using the group of 3 US DDs that start in Maine, and ordered them to move off of Cayenne, South America a few times in each game version. In 1.61 this took ~3.5 days. In 1.62 this took under 2 days.

Nelson cruising at 54 knots? The horror...
And yes the warships are using the ridiculous speeds, while the convoys are still at the base convoy speed(12 knots).

I wonder, if the problem could be that the base hull speed that is shown at reasearch tab is now being added together with the engine speed...

Hull speed and engine speed were always added and then multiplied by all multipliers(-/+x%).
I moved all speed over to the hull in my rebalance mod, but had it the other way around first, main issue in the vanilla files is the very big modifiers, which is OK as long as you use same tech gear as engine but leads to crazy if it differs.
This bug is in the calculations of ship speed when reading the files most likely they are getting doubled, after the modifiers are applied.

Edit: @Nickjbor all your uploaded pics work fine for me, both on pc and phone.
