I totally intended "Katar" and "Changhaï" as those were the writings used in the 1930's (straight from my grand-mother Larousse dictionary, printed 1933). Those were the official spelling of the time, so I thought interesting to use them as such, as both are still used today, even if far less common nowadays due to the higher influence of English (but even Shanghaï is noted as "Chang-haï" on my 1980's globe though).

Such cases are quite rare though, and the lone ones I have in mind are "Liége" instead of "Liège", both in English and French localizations (thanks to a note by a beta tester, if I remember correctly) and "Turkménie/Turkestan" instead of the now common "Turkménistan", as this name was not used by then.

@Alfactor29 I totally forgot answering your post, sorry for that :(

That may seem obvious, but saying it may be for the best: please never refrain posting anything you may find strange or you dislike. It's always interesting for me to have players' opinion on my translations, as sometimes I have to make choices. Ideally, such choices are invisible when you play the game, as I always tend to stick to the most natural possible translation, trying you not to have to wonder what such sentence means, etc. But this is not always easy to do, and sometimes the result may not be that good.

Such a case I had with MtG was the translation for "task force": I toyed for a time with "force opérationnelle", which is the correct translation. The bad thing is this was very long, fitted badly in the texts, was uneasy to use, and partially wrong in a historical point of view as this was properly a US Navy organization thing in WW2 according to what I found when investigating a bit on that point, and this peculiar organization was copied thereafter by other navies.
So I switched very, very late to "escadre", which is also historically partially wrong (at least for USA), but fits better and seems more natural. I've not seen anyone complaining about that, so this may have been a smart move.

This example shows you that any feedback is always useful for me, so please, once again: don't refrain report anything!

Another example, I'm thinking of now is about Stellaris, where @Vilcoyote doesn't like some of my translations for some names (inviting him here as this may be useful showing his posts are not left alone in the void of dark space): when one person reports something as wrong or bad, I have to guess this may be the opinion of one person. If there are more people, I obviously have to take that into account.

Now, probably the most efficient way to do that is probably not in the "English" bug reports. I'd heavily suggest posting in the French forum sections for each game, like:
+ here for Hoi4: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...mod-de-traduction-améliorée-tassigny.1036248/
+ there for Stellaris: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ports-de-bugs-pour-la-trad-française.1022823/
or more generally in the French-speaking forums.

ah, nice news, I will know where to go in the futur ^^ (even if I play mostly english now du to my heavy use of mod)

Yup, I perfectly understand that.

Even if I do anything possible to have a good translation for French, using custom loc strings everywhere is very time-consuming due to script, re-reading and testing, so probably for French language modders or mod translators for French language that's quite disheartening :(

Yes, it should be Liége during most of this game's time-frame, so Liége is the correct spelling. The accent was changed in 1946.

I have done some mod translation and I agree with you it's such a pain (and I don't use the loc strings, so weird things happen sometimes)
