Database migration failed. Most likely, your database file has been affected by newer version of the launcher. Remove / rename the file 'C\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Heart of Iron IV\launcher-v2.sqlite' and try again

Issue started happening today and have not found a way to get rid of it, not being able to play the game.

No recent change that I can think off, I have already tried reinstalled a fresh game and have the same error

Note that if you follow the steps suggested by the error, the mods end up all messed up, even after reinstall so I will be working to unsusbscribe and subscribe again to all mods with a fresh install. the mods are only present as 'subscribed' in the steam workshop, and in a playset in the launcher, not enabled in the game so not sure why they got messed up

Steps to Reproduce
1-Start the game
2-Get the error
3-Delete the file as instructed
4-Start the game again, notice that all the mods playsets are all messed up
5-if restart the launcher again, you get the same error (back to step 1)

Yeah same from me, unsubbing to mods and getting the beta launcher only worked for about 5 days, it started happening again

I unsubscribed to all my mods, and reinstalled the game multiple times it still doesn’t work

Having the same problem across all Paradox games. 334 games on my steam list and only the paradox games are giving me errors.

What I find wierd is that this thread has 36 replies and 2k views, multiple people having the issue, and none from Paradox has commented on either this is a known issue, they need more information or someting

The HoI team does not actually maintain the new launcher. It's a separate team so I sadly have no insight into the launcher.

I would try and maybe post the issue in the https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/paradox-general-discussion.518/ section in the newest launcher release thread instead

Afaik usually disabling the anti virus solves it but not 100% sure

Knowing Paradox the solution will probably be a paid DLC.
So many people having this issue, not a single thing said by the devlopers, it`s actually starting to really piss me off

I had a similar issue as mentioned above with the "database migration failed" message.

I have an antivirus called AVG which has ransoware protection on it. I think the ransomware protection was blocking paradox launcher from accessing the documents folder.

So i added paradox launcher v2 to the exceptions list in the antivirus. This didn't change anything.

I then added paradox launcher from C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.10.1 to the exceptions list. This worked and the launcher worked as it should.

The problem probably has to do with ransomware protection inn antiviruses. Most antiviruses probably gives you the ability to add exceptions for certain programs.

The launcher uses sqlite database files to store playsets and mod icons, which isn't a typical behavior in the antivirus's eyes. Database protection isn't necessary for most people unless you use your game computer to work on database-related tasks.

The error disappeared after I deleted the sqlite file.

I disabled the anti virus (Kaspersky) - didn't work
Reinstalled the game, deleted Paradox folder in docs, restarted Steam
Nothing works
