  • Crusader Kings III Available Now!

The realm rejoices as Paradox Interactive announces the launch of Crusader Kings III, the latest entry in the publisher’s grand strategy role-playing game franchise. Advisors may now jockey for positions of influence and adversaries should save their schemes for another day, because on this day Crusader Kings III can be purchased on Steam, the Paradox Store, and other major online retailers.

I'm a history buff. I'm all for historical accuracy to a reasonable degree. I like ensuring things happen at fairly historical dates. But trying to make the game completely fit history is something that can't be done.

Ok but , right now, the AI doesn’t even know what “historical accuracy to a reasonable degree“ is

just because small countries do not have a narrative role in a Eurocentric conflict does not mean that you can just overwrite them and make them even more pawns than they already were.

But the conflict is WW2. Why should I play Portugal if it wasn’t directly involved in the war? What’s the point of playing as Sweden?
It’s like playing a game about the American civil war and start the game as Turkey.

You're more deconstructing you own point there. The game is supposed to allow anyone to change history -- that's why you can select any country at the start. But a truly historical game without fundamental mechanics changes or elaborate focus trees for everyone would be boring unless you played the traditional powers. Not only will you destroy player agency with those giants, you will destroy it for the little powers.

These formable nations are a good goal-setter for a campaign with a minor nation. Gran Colombia, anyone?

And no, it is nothing like the American Civil War. Every country had an story -- even neutral ones. Do you think Salazar wanted to be neutral? Britain had to call in a treaty made in 1375 just to keep them out of it. The Swiss infamously handled Nazi funds while being neutral. Even Nepal aided Britain under the Ranas. I would prefer to see the game made more in-depth than see my divisions moved to the Maginot for me.

And let me say that the point of the game is to change history, not to follow it to the minutest detail. Otherwise it is little more than a game of micromanagement and scripts for Germany. Although, given your desire to not have Stalingrad go as planned, it seems what you want is a game that isn't about painting the world your color. In which case, just play it that way.

I think that is the central difference - you regard the game as WW2 simulator; I see it as grand strategy game in the WW2 period.

That's a key point to remember when people make complaints about how the game works.

I think Australia achievement should be Australia-Hungry (You know, hungary-hungry puns, also australia got hungry and annexes hungary, for more punny stuff) Can also be Australia's Hung(a)ry (australia is hungry etc.)

PS. I was going to suggest "Empire Strikes Back" for Ottoman forming (I am assuming that Ottoman Empire will be formable since Neo Ottoman is now Turkish Empire) but appearently there is an achievement name like that for Britain.

The AI should form these formable nations if it can. I mean, when Mussolini owns the whole of Africa in my current UK playthrough(Don't ask), he would be prefectly justified doing a little name tweaking and self aggrandising(before my British sunset invasion from Portugal sweeps them away in a tide of red-pink-and-Khaki death). I mean, what is so unrealistic about them being formed if the nations really do end up with the land. It is unrealisitc for Greece to make the Eastern Roman Empire simply because it is small. If it does get its hands on the required lands, then why not?

Yes, I would definitely pick the last option.

I don’t play to know the outcome because it’s always the same, me winning.
Don’t you think that if all the issues that Germany had faced in the war were properly represented it would have been a nice and challenging game?

Without the D Day I don’t have to pull divisions from the eastern front.
Without Stalingrad there’s no turning point.
Without the Russian pushing me back I don’t need to research better tanks.
Without market garden and the Ardennes offensive the western front gets a little boring.
Without Crete the allies would control the Mediterranean.
Without the landing In Sicily there is no war on the italian’s soil.
Without pearl harbour there is no USA at all.
Without the stalemate in China there’s no Burma campaign.

This is my opinion. I would love to hear yours.

Mate, you're arguing with people who want to play the Byzantine Empire in a World War 2 game. I think the appropriate phrase is "banging your head against a brick wall".
