After that Paradox apparently have something really good up their sleeves. After much brave and ceaseless grappling with the developers in which I had to expose myself to countless alcoholic beverages, I managed to get confirmation from Paradox that yes, they do indeed have a new engine that has been developed parallel to Hearts of Iron II, and it’s 3D this time.

Paradox going mainstream!

interesting, but how can the reviewer determine how long a grand campaign will last? in multiplaya

Sign. As I said, you can’t win ‘em all, though the good money is on a game based on one of the licenses acquired by Paradox for Squad Leader and Diplomacy, with my personal bets riding on the latter, and a game due to materialize on the shelves sometime towards the end of 2005.

Hmm if he is to be trusted... Paradox´s next game will not på SL or dip. hmm... and he thinks it will make good money... and 3d... hmm..

Nice to see that this reviewer finds the battle scenarios as compelling as the grand campaign.

We have to wait till mid january to find out what the new 3d engine is being used for, huh? Is the day of world spanning strategic level Paradox games at an end or is HoI3 going to include 3d terrain? :D

I don't see how a 3D engine would benefit map-based games like HOI.
Well look at the campaign map of Rome:TW you'll have to admit that it loks quite nice, thuogh the old one had a certain charm. Better yet it might make the map moddable *drools*

But...Paradox is all about grand strategy...? I don´t get it.
What is diplomacy then?

Anyway, 3d sounds interesting, and IMO it is time to lay the EU engine to rest after HoI2. It has helped maked great games, but it is getting a bit old and a new engine might open up new possibilities for p-dox style games not possible with the EU engine.

Okay. Thanks. I checked it out...
I just hope they add a little combat to the mix in order to make it appeal to more people.
And, yes, it is high time for a new engine, even if i do suspect that the old one really isn´t that old anymore. There´s been a lot ocf changes, and new code added through the years.
