After that Paradox apparently have something really good up their sleeves. After much brave and ceaseless grappling with the developers in which I had to expose myself to countless alcoholic beverages, I managed to get confirmation from Paradox that yes, they do indeed have a new engine that has been developed parallel to Hearts of Iron II, and it’s 3D this time.
Sign. As I said, you can’t win ‘em all, though the good money is on a game based on one of the licenses acquired by Paradox for Squad Leader and Diplomacy, with my personal bets riding on the latter, and a game due to materialize on the shelves sometime towards the end of 2005.

Well look at the campaign map of Rome:TW you'll have to admit that it loks quite nice, thuogh the old one had a certain charm. Better yet it might make the map moddable *drools*maartos said:I don't see how a 3D engine would benefit map-based games like HOI.

Anyway, 3d sounds interesting, and IMO it is time to lay the EU engine to rest after HoI2. It has helped maked great games, but it is getting a bit old and a new engine might open up new possibilities for p-dox style games not possible with the EU engine.
