I am an old EU2 and HOI player - haven´t played newer Paradox games cause of time issues and other interests. However want to move to HOI Doomsday now.

-So Doomsday is a standalone game and offers everything HOI2 offers also?

-Are there also issues with sloppy gameplay, jumping map and bad mouse movement in later stages of the game like with HOI1 (played mostly CORE though). ? I mostly thought the cause of this was that the game engine might be too slow(sluggish) for the huge number of units in late game. My HW should good enough to run HOI1 core version

- I have now an older comp withP4 2.4 + 1MB Ram DDR400 dual + Ati 9800 graphics. Is this good enough for Doomsday ? Win XP latest updates is the OS. I also have an AMD machine with Athlon XP2.4, 768 DDR400, Ati 9600, Win Xp...... runs Doomsday better on Intel or AMD? Intel chipset is 915GL and the AMD one is SIS 748.

- Is the Core mod still the most developed one for WW2 combat in Doomsday ? Is there another mod that is recommended for modern day and/or WW1 ? Took a look in the mod forums, seems some mods still are not completed.

- Or are there reasons to directly move to HOI3 with above PC setups ? Guess it needs more power....

THANX YOU.

1) When you buy doomsday, it comes with HOI2 plus all the improvements thereof. My suggestion - buy anthology. It has HOI 1, 2, DD, and Arma, with all but Arma patched to completion.

2) I play DD 1.3, and though there is a late game slowdown, it's not that bad, and I've never had 'sloppy gameplay'.

3) I played DD 1.3 just fine on a computer that I bought in January 2006. Don't know if this helps any. Your specs look ok though, but I'm no expert.

4) Don't know about mods. Maybe someone else can help you out there.

5) Well, if your computer is as old as you say, you might want to upgrade before going to HOI 3. Of course, buying HOI 3 is a whole nuther issue. I own it, and enjoy it, but it is very different than HOI 2, and they are still working through some issues. I'd recommend checking the HOI 3 forum for a while before making the decision on it.

Hope this helps

Your computer specifics should be fine enough (maybe add some RAM). But while you´re looking out for alternatives, why not checking Arsenal of Democracy. It´s a stand alone game based on HOI 2. With the next patch due any day it should be quite tempting. Your PC will still manage this game - mine does and it´s got the same specifics as yours (except for the RAM).

the patch (down load above free) makes it quite enjoyable especially when compared to HOI 1.
your machine can't run HOI 3 hehe
don't buy AOD! even tho its the coolest game in the world (lol) u cant go encouraging these guys to sell us basically a mod of hoi2 for the same price with no disk no manual and patches pending.
